Multiple rentals at the same time?
Anyone have problems renting more than one vehicle at a time in different places?
Want to rent a car at my home airport on a Thursday for s/o to use for a weekend trip - then I leave Friday for a trip and need a car too... Will hertz have a problem with this? |
I doubt it, as I've certainly had multiple reservations at the same time. But don't remember if I've booked them.
As long as the Credit Card is good, and the DL matches the reservation they are happy campers |
I've done it many times. I had three cars rented at the same time once (three different locations)
|
I have had 2 vehicles out at the same time from different locations and never had a problem.
|
Many times - no problem. I would often have a monthly rental out in Chicago and pick up weekend rentals in all sorts of cities. Never an issue anywhere.
And just in case someone later searches on this with a slightly different question, I've also had two cars out of the same location at the same time on a couple of occasions. Once from a HLE near my house and once at an airport location where we were traveling to a wedding. On all of the rentals, the car was in my name, but both of them had a CDP code that permitted my spouse to drive the cars. (I'm not convinced that they specifically checked that the CDP permitted the add'l driver, but from a liability perspective, I wouldn't have done it without knowing I was covered. We would have just rented the 2nd cars under her name.) |
No problem
Depending on how you look at it I've had as many as 4 concurrent (or very nearly concurrent) rentals running. :D
1. A week long rental at BWI for a convention. 2. An extended rental at home while my personal ride was in the shop for accident repair. 3. A daily rental in MCO within the week at BWI. 4. A same day rental in IAD, one way back to BWI to pick up car #1 at the end of trip #3. No body raised as much as an eyebrow. Lihue1k |
Hertz reservations told me that I can have as many rentals as I want from DIFFERENT locations. Maybe HLE's are different but they would not let me rent a car twice from the same location. (In my case, it was because I was renting a car for myself, and another for a colleague to drive under our corporate contract -- who didn't want to go to the airport to pick it up)

Thanks for the info. I just booked a weekly rental to drive to BHM where I have to work next week. I will fly from there out tomorrow and needed a weekend rental. Now I know I am good to go.

I've had two cars out from ORD at the same time. Reservations several hours apart though. Got upgraded on both of them.

2 Award Reservations under my name - possible?
Got a quick question & wanted to see if anyone's done this before...
I'm going on vacation with a group of people & we'll need 2 cars for the vacation. Is it possible for me to cash out 2 award vehicles in my name & add an additional driver on the second car to get them out of the lot? The return dates would be different too... Has anyone ever done this? Thanks! |
The only way it can work, the other rental would have to rented in your wife's name. That's as far as a certificate can be redeemed for, you or your wife.
|
Hmm...Not married, so that won't work & I'm traveling with a bunch of guys, so I can't even BS that one...
Anyone ever rent both cars in their own name & have the additional driver drive it out of the lot? |
I've rented up to four cars at the same time using award points. Picked 'em all up without any problems. The location was ready for me to fill out additional driver forms, but the other drivers were already automatically covered under my CDP.
I've also had simultaneous award reservations from different locations without difficulty. While certainly not the norm, I never got the impression that it was at all questionable or frowned upon. -m |
Thanks, merrickdb - I appreciate the response! :)

Renting multiple cars
I am a long-time Hertz Gold member, and get a great corporate discount. I need to rent three vehicles for a group meeting, but obviously I'm not going to be driving them all simultaneously. I will pay for the alternate drive charges as required.
Will Hertz allow me to book and rent multiple vehicles? I want to pick one up on a Monday, one on the subsequent Friday, and the third on the next day, Saturday. Two will be returned a week later, the final a week after that. |
There is no problem having multiple rentals at the same time. I've just done it myself recently.
|
i do it all the time
I have a small biz. I used AP numbers. But Hertz doesn't give company credit for rental days. So I have to go to the HLE or Airport and add auth driver. At one time 6 cars. almost $1800 of CC auth. lol.

Two reservations for same pick-up time
So originally I had a Mercedes C class booked at LAS, for $505. A little more than I'd like to spend, but could be worth it.
I'm now worried that it'll just be a base trim, so I booked a 2nd car as just a regular intermediate ($145!). Is there any issue with keeping both reservations until I walk up to the counter? My ultimate goal is to find out how the Mercedes is equipped (if I even get that specific car). If I don't like it, can I simply take the ICAR reservation? Surely one of you folks have done this! |
Hertz allows you to rent multiple cars at one time so having multiple reservations at the same time is not a problem. You may even want to negotiate an upgrade from your lower priced reservation and see if that works out cheaper for you.
|
It hasn’t happened to me, but I’ve read multiple accounts (on FlyerTalk forums) of people who have had their second reservation cancelled—perhaps because Hertz assumed they were trying to game the system.
And lots of other FT-ers have pointed out that there are legitimate reasons you might have multiple reservations, but nonetheless, unexpected cancellations have happened. |
Thanks for the responses!
So there really is no issue with having two reservations (when I only plan on having one) as far as Hertz is concerned. Maybe a bit morally wrong though. If I make the 2nd reservation in my wife's name, I assume they won't cancel it on me, but will I be able to then rent the car in my name? I always assume Hertz charges for additional drivers (even if it's a spouse), and I will be doing 100% of the driving so I don't actually want it in her name. |

I can also attest to Hertz basically canceling one of my reservations in the past - needed a minivan to move things to a storage unit and made a reservation for one (7am to 2pm or something like that) and then had a reward one-way reservation from 230pm to 230pm next day... Basically they cancelled my reward and had to go back and forth to get a new res... Hertz makes it seem like it is impossible to need 2 different types of cars in one day

Not sure how Nevada does it, but in California, adding an additional driver is the free and you get all the benefits of your rate (ie. LDW if it was included).

Are there any Hertz C-Classes that are not base models?

Extra driver is not free in Nevada unless you have it as a benefit from a specific CDP, such as AAA membership.

Even for spouses? I've only rented from two different locations (excluding MCO). One I became good friends with and he always said "don't worry about the extra driver fee!". Other location, I mentioned I knew the guy from the 1st location and he told me not to worry about it either. I wasn't sure if they were both just being nice or if it was complimentary like with Avis.

A spouse, significant other or co-worker, does not have to be declared and added to the contract as a second driver. There is no extra driver fee for them. The poster I was responding to didn't know how extra drivers are treated in Nevada (no mention of spouse). In California, any extra driver is free, regardless. It's the law.
Thanks for the info! |

Ohhh okay I didn't understand at first. Must be different in Ontario, as each time my wife wanted to drive the car as well, she needed to sign a form as an additional driver. Nice to see Nevada allows it!
Thanks for the info! https://www.hertz.com/rentacar/custo...&search=spouse Click on "Add additional driver for Gold Plus Rewards member" |
Any updates to this?
I'd like to rent a nicer then normal vehicle. I can pay $75. Or I can rent an intermediate for 47, and check what's available with the UC (which sometimes can have its gems). Thoughts on Booking a luxury (group G4 in this case) and an intermediate? |

What airport? G4 class is an Infiniti Q50, generally you can get an upgrade to it even if you don’t find one in the PC lot. |

Free, yes, but potentially still needs to be listed on the contract.

Two reservations at one time
Will be getting a car right before Christmas at DEN. Now I have an intermediate car and an intermediate SUV reservation, but the SUV is $250 more expensive than the car. Hopefully can just get an SUV from ultimate choice (but don't know how it will be that day at the airport...). The problem is that if the system catches me have two reservations that day, will there be any problem? Thanks!!
|
A month ago, I'd have told you no problem. But it looks like the Hertz system is now looking for duplicate reservations. You'll probably get an e-mail a few days prior asking which one you'd like to cancel.

Also will the agent make a fuss about it? |
Are you traveling with someone else? Why not make keep the ICAR reservation under your name and put the IFAR reservation under a fellow traveler's name? We'd also set the pickup time for the IFAR reservation to a couple of hours later than you plan to arrive so there's still time to cancel it if you get something from the UC section. Once the pickup time has passed, it's no longer possible to cancel via the app/online.
Also keep in mind that prices often change as the pickup date approaches. It's worth tracking both reservations for price drops. |

The main concern I have now is that the pickup time is right before the holiday, so worry about what they would actually have there. Also I'm not 25 yet so at least from what I found from hertz web, all additional drivers even AAA members have to be at least 25? |
