Additional Driver Fee for Parent

Hi,

I couldn't find much information on this from the Hertz website so I'm hoping someone with experience knows the answer or can point me in the right direction.

I have Hertz #1 Club Gold with the Family CDP so I get my underage driver fee waived. We want to rent a car for a week but I will be leaving earlier (in the middle of the week), I would like my mom to be able to drive the car after I leave and return it for me to the airport then she can go on her flight and leave as well.

Does anyone know if I have to pay the additional driver fee for my mom? It only says domestic partners and spouses which obviously doesn't really apply to me.

The reason I am doing this rather than just returning it earlier is because Hertz actually wants to charge me more ($100 more) to do a 4 day rental vs a 1 week rental, but I can only stay for 4 days but my mom is staying for 1 week, plus it'd be nice for her to have a car to use after I leave.

Thanks!

Are you by any chance members of AAA?

"No charge for an additional driver who is a AAA member, holds a major credit card in his/her name and meets standard rental qualifications."

I'm not sure if you have to use the AAA CDP in order for this to apply, though.

You do have to use the AAA CDP.

The USAA CDP also has this benefit of free additional drivers and waived age differential. FWIW, as long as you have a social security number then you can sign up for free (no military affiliation required).

I actually have the same question..
can I be uaaa if I am canadian?

also, you MUST use AAA + the age differencial pc to get free additional drivers + underage waived, but I find this is more expensive than to just use gold cdp + a good promo code... So I would like to know if there is any other options

You can't sign up for USAA w/o a SSN, you need to be an American citizen since it's an organization primarily for US armed forces veterans.

You have a good point about AAA though, you'd need the underage PC, which usually for some crazy reason (lol) hikes the base rate.

Have you rented in Vegas before? Any way to avoid $60/day for a standard car? I rent this for $18 anywhere else....

No, never (although I've been to Vegas twice). Is that the base rate or for an additional driver? If that's the base rate... yikes... CDP, find a good PC, I really don't know Have you looked at the numerous HLEs in Vegas? Maybe take a hotel shuttle and then walk to a HLE/hotel with a HLE in it.

I've also never rented a SCAR before, I've reserved it but the closest I've ever come to driving one was when I booked a Corolla in MLB and drove off with a F-tagged Fusion (lol). So maybe book a mid-size and you might get lucky -- after all it's Vegas! Fun fact: the LAS airport location has the largest selection of any Hertz station in the country!

If it makes you feel any better, the cheapest car in NY right now is a mid-size SUV (Rav4) at $42 a day... the Kia Rio is $60+

Call Hertz and check as I have been told that #1 Club Gold members get an additional drivers fee waived. The website does not tell you the benefit of Underage drivers getting their underage drivers fee waived as a #1 gold member.

No it's only spouse/partner that they waive. Had a similar issue (father as additional driver) and they wouldn't waive, despite being #1 Gold.
