+1

The AAA site is great for getting a double discounted rate.

That said, if the discount isn't great, I've used this CDP successfully in the past. Sometimes the rates are discounted by only 5% and sometimes as high as 20% depending on the location you rent from. I've used this CDP code at both airport locations and HLE's when booking online.

CDP# 1634574

Try the AAA option first always but this CDP is a great 2nd option if the AAA option doesn't work.

Looks like this has been extended to pickup through February 13. You won't find that on the link, but I was able to make reservations with it. And return date doesn't matter.

They've been known to extend these good deals more than once, so keep checking.

This $15 off weekends is pretty nice on a 2 day weekend, that's $7.50 off per day. $5 per day is seemingly always available, but $10 per day comes around only now and then.

And I'm having success with it and other CDPs.

Bumping because these codes have been posted since August, but seem to have no expiration.

Hertz student discounts in parts of Europe

Introducing Hertz Students

15% off cars
20% off vans

Are you a student aged 19 or over? Have you held a driver’s licence for over a year? Then here’s the good news: you can now rent a car with Hertz Students.

If you’re thinking ‘well, it’s about time’, we don’t blame you.

After all, every student needs a car sometimes. Whether you’re moving in to or out of uni accommodation, hitting the road for a much-deserved break or visiting friends in the north (or south, east or west), you need wheels.

And now, the extra good news. We know how tight budgets can be. So as a student, you’ll get 15% off cars, and 20% off vans. If you’re aged between 19 and 24, you will need to pay Young Driver Surcharge when you pick up your vehicle. Rates vary, so take a look at our table below.

Plus, you can go where you want, when you want. Cars are available in the United Kingdom, USA, Canada, Belgium, Switzerland, France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, Czech Republic and Slovakia. That’s one heck of a road trip.

And what’s more, you can also rent a van in all of those countries (except the USA and Canada).

Remember, you’ll need:
A current student ID to be presented at the location
A driving licence of more than a year
A credit card in your name to make the booking. You will also need to present this at the location.

Young Driver Surcharge

A Young Driver Surcharge is applicable for students aged between 19 and 24.

Hertz Students’ (as it is called in UK, France, Germany, Benelux & Switz) or Hertz UniverCity’ (as it is called in Spain & Italy) is a prepaid and non prepaid online and off line programme available in the above countries for car and van rentals, and in USA, Canada, Czech Rep and Slovakia for car rentals only. In addition, students from Australia and New Zealand can access the programme through specific customer discount programs.

This programme is valid on selected car groups which may vary by destination and is subject to availability.

The discount on cars and vans is valid for students aged 19 years and above and is based on the best Hertz retail rates available at the time of booking.

To qualify for the discount, students will need to have a driving license that has been valid for at least one year and a valid student ID (which must both be presented at the location). A valid credit card in the student’s own name will be required to make a booking and must be presented at the location.

A Young Driver Surcharge is payable at the location by students aged between 19 and 24.

Just tried this, and with my usual CDP, it gave me a whopping $16.04 off, not $50. Boo.

It seems that this student coupon 707296 is not valid for rentals in USA anymore :(

Does anyone know if there is any other similar coupon valid for USA? I really need a discount.
Thanks

Auto Enthusiast Mar 27, 2011 9:35 am

Use the Underage Coupon, PC 144314. It removes the underage fee, and can be stacked with a discount CDP like AAA. It is better than the "Student Discount" offered in Europe, which gives a percentage discount but does not waive the underage fee.

Thanks for your input on this. Having the AAA CDP allowed me to look at the potential discount I would get if I had AAA for two upcoming rentals and I made the decision to apply for AAA and paid for it with the savings on these two rentals. Thanks.

Smart move. On a move expensive rental, it can make a lot of sense to consider joining an organization such as AAA since the savings can often essentially get you free membership.

It's also worthwhile to evaluate USAA (Hertz CDP: 77694). I wrote a blog post about this here. Best of all, USAA is free to join.

Of course it also goes without saying that you can save even more by booking with AutoSlash.com since we'll also apply the best coupons to your rental, and if rates drop, we'll automatically re-book you at the lower rate. Think of it as price protection. Since we're free, it's basically a no-brainer.

Or you just use a good generic code such as 1911795. ;)

vtqanh May 11, 2011 2:26 pm

I used this code together with CDP 1918058 and ended up at $6 per day for a mid-size in Salt Lake City. The bad part was that the total tax was more than the rental cost!

is this a prepay required code? the hertz system is requiring my cc #. i cant determine if this is just to hold or will process as prepay? i never rent from hertz so im not familiar with their system. most rental car sites dont require you to put in cc to reserve.

Unless it says "Pay Now" when you select your vehicle, then it's not prepaid. They are just taking the card since some locations/vehicle types require a card to be on file. In some rare cases they do charge no-show fees, so be sure to cancel the rental if not needed.

And I was told by live chat support that it's only for family members...

My reservation currently has the CDP 1911795 which also waives the underage fee. But I read that some people were denied to use it because they didn't have corporate ID. See http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/16471003-post99.html

What you are saying doesn't really make sense. The whole idea of Gold Family is that it's good for everyone in the family. That includes the person who's account it is as well as their family members. Maybe the Hertz rep didn't really understand what you were asking.

In any case, I would look at the USAA discount which also waives the underage fee, and in many cases can be a much better discount than Gold Family. You can find more information by clicking here.

mikkoc Jun 7, 2011 8:20 am

Right, I thought so too, that's why I asked here...

Anyway, I'm not USA citizen, so I don't think I can sign up for any of that USAA, AAA, etc.
