Maui Pineapple lives on! Haliimaile Pineapple is taking over Maui Land & Pineapple growing operations and has licensed the Maui Gold name. http://pacific.bizjournals.com/pacif...04/daily4.html

Yay!

Usually only could get Maui pineapple canned (often as a store brand)..just not the same as cutting open a fresh one. Tempted to bring back some with me but can't handle any more carry-on stuff. Killing time at the gate holding area for the AA redeye to the mainland (going LIH-LAX-DFW-BDL). Shipped back LOTS of Kauai (and a bit of pricier Kona) coffee. Loading up the freezer until next Hawaii visit in a year or so. Should keep the office coffee pot going for months. Best price on Kauai coffee was at Costco for 3 packs mixed types(9 bucks for 3 half pound bags). Long's Drug had some of the best deals on Kona coffee (only 7 bucks for the bags I got). Also gotta love those USPS flat rate jumbo boxes; great deal to the east coast. Went to the coffee museum on the south shore...coffee growing is a lot more complicated than I thought it was. |

Ulupalakua Ranch Pineapple Wine is best fresh (does not age well from a California winemaker I spoke with once). Once shipped a bottle back to my dad from Maui. They have a plain pineapple wine and also a pineapple/passion fruit blended wine. Their raspberry wine is also an interesting specialty wine. Possible to internet order their wines at http://www.mauiwine.com/

Their bubbly is pretty ono too ^ Brought back far too much to ANC in December, and need more already :o The raspberry was very sweet, but rather overpriced IMHO... The splash was too sweet as well... apparently it used to be known as Maui Splash since it came from Maui, but the name had been changed to just Splash, I think either in anticipation of loosing the Maui Pineapple, or perhaps the passionfruit was grown on the island as well? Either way I am very happy that some growing will continue ^ Oh, and yes, the LIH Coffee is a very cool place to check out ^ |
