Union says both regional and longhaul trains will be affected. Strikes will be massive, says spiegel.de

I am so glad I'm flying to ZRH next week and HAM the week after - I had seriously considered taking the Bahn for both trips, but I'm now glad I decided against it.

Will be in Germany in about 1,5 weeks. Any news on if this is going to expand?

Hard to tell, especially since it hasn't even started yet. It could already be over in 10 days time, but who knows.

Anyway, I'll be budgeting some extra time if I have to take a train somewhere (doesn't look like it, fortunately).

As this information is not LH or M&M specific but of general interest I will move this thread to the Germany forum.

Well ok for moving it to the Germany forum, but the LH AirRail service will also be affected thus again making it an LH/M&M topic again. ;)

When are you flying to ZRH? Just asking because starting next week I'll be shutteling between ZRH and FRA every week till autumn...

Update on Deutsche Bahn strikes, according to Sunday afternoon's news:

Strikes on Deutsche Bahn start on Monday morning and will continue all week. A first warning strike is announced for Dortmund during the night. On Monday morning, Freiburg and Karlsruhe will be affected, as well as Hamburg, Erfurt and the routes via Magdeburg and Munich - Ulm - Stuttgart.

I have just switched from DB to LH and Avis for my tuesday travel, just in case. Don´t want to miss the meeting + have more meetings coming up the next day. Sometimes it just pays off to be flixible :)

Engine drivers will strike on Tuesday (03.07.2007) from 5am to 9am nation-wide. It is recommended to avoid the train during this time frame.

It appears to be back to work while new contract offers are received and reviewed.

I just read more strike action is expected next week. If DUS is affected have to organize a car since taxis will be in very short supply.

Yes, new strikes to come next week as engine drivers plan work stoppage again.

The next strike by engine drivers will be nation-wide on 10.07.2007 from 8am to 11am.

An hour ago on the ARD Morgenmagazin:

Reporter in front of a standing train in Frankfurt: "This Regionalexpress to Heidelberg should have departed one minute ago."

Camera pans to the side and the reporter interviews someone.

When the interview is finished, the camera pans back to the original view.

"As you can see, Frankfurt station has come to a complete standstill."

And the train in the background is gone!

No further disruption of train traffic is expected until 7/13:

"Die Streikaktionen der Gewerkschaft Deutscher Lokomotivführer sind heute vom Arbeitsgericht Mainz für rechtswidrig erklärt worden. Es ist bis Freitag, 13. Juli mit keinen weiteren Beeinträchtigungen im Nah- und Fernverkehr rechnen."
