LEX-ATL-STR tips?

I am using some soon to expire eticket credits for a trip to STR on thursday (in the back of the plane :( ). I have never been to Germany before, and am wondering if anyone could suggest some activities for 3 days/nights in Stuttgart.

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, please feel free to move if needed.

If you are in to cars, go visit the Mercedes-Benz Headquarters at STR.
Take a trip to Heidelberg
Visit the Black Forest - Titisee is a tourist spot.
Visit Switzerland or France it is pretty close to STR.

Have a nice time in STR: DALelite

Have you tried the other forums about Travel&Dining/ Europe/Germany?

Tons of information...

Baden-Baden is an ancient Spa area... Go to a Bundesliga Soccer Match. Stuttgart is doing rather well this season.

I'd rent a car and drive to Strassbourg and do the Alsace wine tour. All the little towns along the way are beautiful, particularly Colmar, and didn't see as much damage in the war. You can do this all in a long day, but I would spend one night in Strassbourg and then continue. Aside from BMW, Stuttgart doesn't have much. But Baden-Baden is interesting, and Heidelberg, though touristy, is worth a look, if you prefer to stay in Germany. There's a train pass in the state of Baden-Wittenberg that lets you travel anywhere for cheap.

Thanks

Thanks to all for the advice. The Mercedes musuem is tops on the list, as is the Porsche museum tour. I think I will now rent a car for at least a day and drive out to see what all I can see in a day. I know this trip will not be long enough, but it's an icebreaker for next year's job assignment.

Thanks again!

3 days and 3 nights in Stuttgart. Tips?

Hi all,

I previously posted a similar message in the Delta forum, before I knew this forum was here (I'm new to FT).

I am leaving tomorrow for a quick vacation to Stuttgart. I am going there mostly to see the Mercedes museum and the Porsche museum. I am a huge German car nut. I am looking for suggestions of what else I need to see/do while there.

I'm not opposed to renting a car or taking a train for a day trip to another city/area.

I do not speak German fluently, but have been studying hard for the last few weeks to pick up the basics. Is English spoken commonly in Stuttgart, I want to speak to local language as much as possible but I am sure I won't know how to say everything that I will need to.

Thanks in advance,

there are many things to do at Stuttgart (don't hesitate to ask questions, I did grow up in Stuttgart area)

a) you may want to consider one of the worlds best ballets
b) you already mentionned the Porsche and Mercedes Museum
c) there are some nice SPAs
d) the television tower (the modell for all television towers worldwide)

some nice castles nearby, I'd say there is definitely no need for a car. A day trip to Heidelberg would be a nice add-on (40min by train, 1h30 by car ;) )

What about a visit at the Technikmuseum in Sinsheim / Speyer?
The museum has the Tupolev and the Concorde and especially for kids it ist very interesting.
so in what mood are you? I'll try to answer all your questions here

have a look at the following threads as well:

and you'll have no problems with english :)

two errors in here: BMW is in Munich and Stuttgart has alot - no huge monuments except the old castle and the new one at Schlossplatz, but alot of things to do ;)

I agree with Strasbourg, that's where I live now

Thank you so much for that post. The Tecnik Museen looks like a definite trip. There is so much to do and see. I am staying at the Hilton Garden near the Mercedesstrasse, do you know anything about this hotel. I had limited information prior to booking, but it looks ok.

I am afraid, since I still have family at Stuttgart, I don't use hotels quite often. and I did never stay in that part of town.

How about the MBZ factory tour?

Since you are a "German car nut", you probably would be interested in the Mercedes Factory Tour in Sindelfingen. I am currently planning for a visit there myself. I think it may require advance booking though.

Porsche factory tour

Does anyone on info how I can make advanced reservation? I heard it's pretty popular and reservations are highly recommended. By the way, are both the factory and museum in STR? TIA.

Both the musuem and the factory ("Werk") are in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, I didn't find anything about the factory tour ("Werksführung"), but for the museum: take the S6 (S-Bahn), heading to Leonberg/Weil der Stadt from the main station ("Hauptbahnhof") and get of at Neuwirtshaus. The musuem is only a few minutes from there.
