Face masks — does it matter which kind?

Whether on public transportation, at rail stations, airports, in museums, stores, or any other public indoor establishment, does it matter which face mask we use whether it’s handmade cloth, one of the many disposable light blue face masks, or medical N95/KN95s? As long as the nose and mouth are covered, are all face masks allowed in Germany? Thanks.

In planes and public transportation are generally medical mask, KN95 oder FFP2 mask required. A mask made from cotton or cloth are not allowed. Lufthansa actually enforces this and I also noticed this in trains. Hotels and Shops vary, but with a medical mask, , KN95 or FFP2 you are on the safe side.

For travel on Deutsche Bahn see https://www.bahn.com/en/booking-information/corona with additional information. The local transport in Berlin (noticed you asked in a different thread) ask for FFP2 (see https://go.bvg.de/corona only in German). I left Berlin today, and also saw people with a medical mask and KN95 without problems.

Iserlohn belongs to North Rhine-Westphalia. And the recent Corona Regulation requires FFP2 mask in local transportations. In Iserlohn this would be "MVG Märkische Verkehrsgesellschaft" (https://www.mvg-online.de/faqs - also only in German).

Hi,

It will depend on each states ( lander's )local requirements . For example in Berlin in September ( I was there for 12 days ) on public transport , FFP2 ( or KN95 equivalents) were announced as being mandatory. From my observations, most wore FFP2, some wore the medical masks, some wore cloth masks and very few did not wear masks at all.
enforcement was lax ( although announcements on public transport were made, I did not see any enforcement.
Recent reports suggest that with the increase in cases more people are wearing FFP2 masks.

Regards

Thank you. I’ve searched for FFP2 masks and I’m seeing different types of masks.

Will this be accepted? https://shopspecialneedsgroup.com/3-...tion-10-count/

First, anything but medical masks are not allowed (e.g. cloth, impov etc.).
Only medical masks are allowed.

Then, the regulations differ from Land to Land. Germany is a Federal state same as US and laws are different.

In many states, in public transportation you are legally required to wear a FFP2 mask.
However, I never seen and never heard about anyone enforcing this law.
Even if they would, I expect they would be very kind and you go ahead with a warning.

But again - half of people are wearing normal surgical masks despite the clearly stated rule for FFP2 and there is no punishment to such a behavior.

No mask - it's a big no no, please don't try that.

Thank you so very much for everybody’s assistance. I have an FFP2 so I will bring it but I also have many medical masks and I will wear them as I do at home.
