Oh no, Oktoberfest has been cancelled this year!
|
Crap. I was holding out hope, but not to be.

I'm surprised. That's five months in the future, and they are already canceling it! :)

I'd say Christmas Markets are at high risk of eventually being cancelled as well. Regards |

On the bright side, this year nobody will complain about the price of a Maß :D |
A wise decision. Better to err on the side of caution, especially with what is known and not known about COVID-19 at this time.

I will have to recreate the Wiesn at home...

Seems Germany is forbidding all events with more than 5000 people until Oktober. That is the Oktoberfest, obviously, but also a lot of sports events, festivals, concerts, etc ...

I usually go to the Bodensee Weinfest in September in the village of my friends. Looks like I’ll have to recreate the Weinfest at home. ;)
I do hold some hope for those smaller festivals in October (mind you, the Munich Oktoberfest is in September :D ), but not too much. Alternatively, it's off to the Singapore Wiesn :D (last year wasn't too bad with 98$ all you can drink) |

The local, smaller (and much less touristic) versions of Oktoberfest all across Bayern (and even Switzerland :D ) are usually more fun anyway.

A few pictures from last year (inside, it was with aircon.. almost to be expected in Singapore, I prefer the outdoor Beerfest they had other years at Clarke..
https://oktoberfestasia.com/ Still only from 2019.. but I guess, if there's a 2020 edition, it will use the same URL They do promote a "Beer Fest Asia 2020" though, from 25th to 28th June. https://www.hapz.com/festivals https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...dab4b4c7a2.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...7bcd33941d.jpg |
Would never voluntary visit Oktoberfest but it´s nevertheless a strange situation. In Germany I experience more and more critical voices against the lockdown. Hospitals are often empty and some staff has nothing to do. To make it clear, I think things like Oktoberfest or full stadiums aren´t necessary in the current situation, so nothing against this cancelations.

There is no real lockdown in most of Germany (Bayern and Saarland excepted). In RLP and most Lander you are encouraged to stay home but no real interdiction.
