There is no real lockdown in most of Germany (Bayern and Saarland excepted). In RLP and most Lander you are encouraged to stay home but no real interdiction.

Well compared to Spain where children have not been outside for nearly two months (litteraly, only adults were authorised outside to go grocery shopping) this is very light in Germany. A real lockdown means you barely go out (Max 10 minutes a day in Israel for example, in France you need to fill a form), here we go out as much as we want.

British Airways ☹️
This post was about British Airways Tickets for Oktoberfest. I have deleted much of the post because British Airways Policy regarding the COVID-19 situation changes on a daily basis. Currently, policies regarding cancelation extend to 31 July 2020 Bookings. British Airways vouchers are good until 2022 now. My hope would be that this policy will extend eventually to Oktoberfest. British Airways has really stepped up their response it very positive ways. My advice would be to hold off making changes prematurely. Example: if I had canceled my July flight last week my voucher would expire in September 2020 (1 year from my original booking date) now if I canceled the voucher would expire to 30 April 2022.

The local, smaller (and much less touristic) versions of Oktoberfest all across Bayern (and even Switzerland :D ) are usually more fun anyway.
I do hold some hope for those smaller festivals in October (mind you, the Munich Oktoberfest is in September :D ), but not too ) I would be more sad to see any fraction of the volksfests & herbstfests be canceled before the Munich Oktoberfest. Nearby Freising & Erding usually have sizable ones before Oktoberfest happens. Sizeable in that I think they are a lot more enjoyable. Nuremberg usually happens before Munich's too. |

I would be fairly certain that no mass gatherings of any kind will be permitted in Bavaria this year.

Its unfortunate, but for a good cause! I personally never experienced Oktoberfest as it during the work uptick after summer, but hope I can make it in the following years.

Anyone have thoughts on if the breweries will still make an Oktoberfest beer this year? While not nearly as good as fresh on site, I could at least look forward to some bottled imports.
I am still bummed this had to be cancelled. |

I am still bummed this had to be cancelled. https://www.abendzeitung-muenchen.de...c0670b672.html Munich - Wiesn fans around the world will not be left out in the cold without a Wiesn: The Oktoberfest beer will be brewed despite the cancellation of the public festival, the Munich Breweries Association announced on Tuesday. According to tradition, only beer from the six Munich breweries may be served at the Wiesn and sold in stores as Oktoberfest beer. Around 7.3 million litres of beer ran down thirsty throats at the Wiesn last year - but that is only part of the beer actually brewed. The coveted beverages are available in beverage shops and supermarkets and are sold all over the world - to the USA, Italy and Asia. Breweries prepare for less production At Hofbräu München, therefore, brewing begins in April. According to spokesman Stefan Hempl, about 15 percent of the Oktoberfest beer of the State Hofbräuhaus was drunk at the Oktoberfest last year, that was 743,400 measures. In total, however, approximately five million liters were brewed, almost half of which were for export. The rest went to the trade or to the catering trade. This year it will probably be a little less beer - because pubs are closed, public festivals are cancelled. "It will probably not be asked in the same quantity as usual", says Hempl. For reasons I cannot understand, all the USA breweries that have an Oktoberfest brew make it nothing like the original style. |
So, today was supposed to be boarding a flight to Munich for the opening weekend of Oktoberfest.
Still bummed this had to be cancelled. Hopefully everyone is staying safe, hoisting a stein wherever you are, and we meet again next year. Prosit !! (remotely) |
