Coronavirus in Germany
 

To summarize what and how the situation in Germany in regard to the coronavirus in our 16 federal states are, I have started a list and created a wiki. Especially to my fellow Flyertalker from Germany, fell free to add additional information. I will try to gather additinol informaton myself over the next couple of hours (or days) as I am quite busy right now.

Rheinland Pfalz

Groceries, weekly markets, pick-up and delivery services, beverage stores, pharmacies, medical supply stores, drug stores, gas stations, banks and savings banks, post offices, hairdressers, dry cleaners, laundromats, newspaper sales, construction, horticultural and pet supplies markets are open

Public facilities, pubs, sports, playgrounds and many shops are closed. Restaurants open from 6am to 6pm.

Public transport as normal, no other measures.

Since all German federal states now follow the lead of the federal government, why not just cover the measures from the federal government (listed here) and then list items, where the states differ from those overarching guidelines?

Germany implements the entry restrictions for non-EU citizens recommended by the European Commission immediately, several sources report. According to the FAZ, the first affected flight was a TK flight into FRA last night where non-EU citizens with "non-essential" travel were denied entry.

These restrictions are supposed to remain in place for 30 days. Norway, Switzerland and the UK are exempt; its residents can continue to fly into Germany. There are a number of further exemptions: People with a permanent residence title for a EU country, medical personnel and experts on the coronavirus, diplomats, passengers in transit back to their country of residence, and people importing goods into the EU.

I have finalized the wiki with the current status of the federal states (so called "Länder") in the Wiki. As suggested by SunshineStay I have used the general rule and added information to public transportation. I also highlighted if there is a lockdown or restrictions in gathering of people.

Just a data point. A friend of mine - a non-German EU citizen, resident in Munich - was able to travel from her apartment to the airport this morning for her flight home.

I am currently in the UK, but will post any updates I receive from colleagues in Bayern.

Since yesterday:Stricter measures after non-compliance with voluntary requirements

The Rhineland-Palatinate Ministerial Council of Ministers today decided on further far-reaching measures to contain the pandemic. “We have already decided on far-reaching interventions and would like to thank everyone who is exemplary. However, we also noticed that some people unfortunately do not adhere to the requirement to distance themselves from one another. On the contrary, groups gather in some places or spend their free time. This impression is reinforced by descriptions from the municipalities. We have therefore decided that from midnight onwards there will be a public ban on assembly. Groups of people with more than 5 people are prohibited. In addition, the Council of Ministers has stipulated in the ordinance that the following institutions must close at midnight from today:

1. Restaurants, restaurants, cafeterias, canteens, cafés and similar facilities (both indoor and outdoor catering),
2. Ice cream parlors, ice cream parlors, internet cafés and similar facilities (both indoor and outdoor dining),
3. Thermal baths, solariums, wellness facilities and similar facilities,
4. Driving schools (including driving school exams on TÜV premises) and similar facilities,
5. Libraries and similar institutions,
6. Sports boat harbors and similar facilities.

The sale for take-away and the delivery service through restaurants, pubs and cafés remain permissible. On-site consumption is also excluded in facilities that are not affected by the closure.

Travel restrictions

From now on journeys and trips from the international risk areas declared by the Robert Koch Institute for COVID-19 to Rhineland-Palatinate are prohibited. In addition, transit from these risk areas through the area of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate is prohibited, with the exception of journeys to the place of employment or residence. The Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs, Health and Demography issued a corresponding regulation today. When traveling to the place of work, to the place of work or employment, a completed and signed commuter certificate from the Federal Police must be carried; in addition, when traveling with a vehicle, the commuter certificate must be clearly displayed behind the windscreen. Effects on the Rhineland-Palatinate economy

“The corona crisis has had an enormous impact on the Rhineland-Palatinate economy, especially the small companies and the self-employed have already been hit hard. I advocated a general, common solution early on. I therefore expressly welcome the federal emergency aid program for small businesses and solo self-employed persons. Corona is at least a national if not a global problem and so the answer must also be at the national level. We will support the federal government in implementing the program. At the same time, I am in discussion with all stakeholders in order to identify and react to any further need for help that may exist, ”said Minister of Economics Dr. Volker Wissing.



The minister called on all companies to take advantage of existing offers. "Use the short-time allowance. Talk to your tax office. Make contact with your house bank, which plays a key role in the state government's guarantee and loan programs, ”said Wissing. However, it must be clear to everyone that politicians can only combat the effects of the spread of the corona virus, in order to curb the spread of the virus in and of itself, but we are all challenged.

I am resident in Austria and usually commute across the border to work in Bayern. However I am currently in the UK, due to the postponement of my company's seasonal activities at least until April 27.

My work is in a tourist industry, which has absolutely no chance of operating whilst these lockdowns are in place. I do, however, plan to return by car, once we are permitted to begin the season.

So I wonder whether it is worth downloading the permit from the Bundespolizei? I guess not, as my work will only start once the lockdowns are lifted and I have absolutely no interest in returning home during the lockdowns.

Germany will ban the gathering of more than two people, I believe to start tonight.

Does this apply only to public places, or also in private residences?

Public spaces. To be precise this is banning the gathering of more than 2 people not of the same household. Non essential business to close (hairdressers were still open for example). We are now basically short of a curfew.

It does not include family members or people living together. Still...

What I mean is friends popping over for dinner and a bottle of wine.
