Very much so. In fact, this entire trip is partially predicated on renting whatever hot hatches I can find in Avis's, Europcar's and Sixt's fleets:).

Nice! They do rent some nice cars there...

Also, Nurburgring and Spa Francorchamps. If they have M2s, I might be interested. Sixt does, but they also have an A45 AMG for the same price and splitting a rental into two would be too expensive, so I'd have to pick one or the other and I've wanted to drive the Merc for a while. But if I could take an M2 for a spin for a couple of hours, it would be a nice bonus.
The M2 would be a pocket rocket, the A45 is no doubt still awesome!

Awesome! When I was in Munich in 2010 the reason was to pick up my 335xi I did a European Delivery. Needless to say I drove around EU! And I did the Nürburgring! God that was intoxicating! :D

EDIT: looks like they don't have an M2 - just an M235i and an M135i (sadly, both automatics). Not worth it for 135 Euro/3 hours when, if I really want to drive an M2, I can just book a second Sixt car for less than that for an entire day. Still, it's a neat option I didn't know about.I've been.
Decisions decisions! :)

Seems they have more and more automatics, too many tourist that doesn't know how to drive standard and killing the transmission or clutch lol.

Not a huge fan, tbh. Felt more like a traditional tourist trap to me.
Definitely a tourist trap! LOL I even went there! I'm Canadian but my gf is German

Noted, but not really my thing:)
.

Same here but if you're in Salzburg why not :) , ok gf wanted to check it out lol.

Don't forget the automatic cars need less fuel and are (more important) faster. so no brainer for me;)

At fairly reasonable prices, as well. Only in some cases you have to rent for a week to get those prices. I'll post here what I end up with.:)

The M2 is a difficult car to turn down at $70-ish per day, but I've worked on the A45's competitor (Focus RS) when I first started at Ford Marketing, so I owe it to myself to experience it (even if it's just an Auto, which, ugh).

Yeah, if I ever get to a point of buying a European car, I am definitely doing Euro Delivery if offered. Sort-of-free trip to Europe in my own car? Yes, please.

Decisions decisions! :)
Well, the price and the lack of a manual made it easy for me to make one.;)

It's something worth visiting on the first trip (my father and I went in 2010), but not really worth a repeat. We even have them in the States.

For me it would be sort of meaningless since I've never seen the movie.:)

Have fun with the who in the what now?

If the A45 came with a manual, I'd definitely rent that one instead. Alas...

Rührschüssel is German slang for manual gear. Unfortunately Mercede offers the A45 only with automatic gear as all AMG-cars. Same with Audi RS. Only BMW offers manual gear in the smaller M-models (M2, M3, M4).

Yeah, sadly I know:(. I thought RS3 was supposed to come with a manual in Europe, though?

No, as I have one I can confirm you have no choice. You can still get a S3 with manual gear. Had one oft the last S4 with manual gear before;)

Right, that's what had me confused. We have the S3 here, but only with a DSG, but Europe actually has one with a manual. Fun car, but kind of pointless when the Golf R is available cheaper (and with the same engine and more practicality).

Ya! That's very sad! I enjoy driving manual cars. Looks like I'm stuck with BMW for now. Until I'm tired with manual lol.

Last year I was thinking of getting the RS3 here in Canada but the R doesn't have a manual anymore but the S3 still does. Too bad we don't have the Avant or Sportback version here.

I would highly recommend doing the Romantik road in the suggested direction, from north to south so that you're looking toward the mountains. For me, three days was about right.

I'll be flying into FRA May1 and leaving the 8th. I'm only planning on spending the first two and last one day in FRA and will be heading to the MUC area for the majority of the time. I'm thinking about taking this route and am glad it was mentioned in this thread.
