MUC guy asking for S-Bahn ticket

When we emerged from the S-Bahn stop today someone asked me for my ticket (just outside the station.) I figure they know most people have bought a day pass as that's the best deal for 2 out to the airport. I never give anyone tickets like that, but I wonder if it was some sort of police sting, to get people to illegally turn over the ticket, or if it was just someone looking for a free ride.

Giving your ticket to somebody (for free) is actually legal. Selling it on isn't, and using it in the knowledge that is has been used by someone else before isn't either, but that's of no concern to you.

Correct - if you look with avery strict eye on the law it could even be a punishable offence (Beihilfe zum Erschleichen von Leistungen 265a StGB)

When I'm leaving Munich for home (these days almost always on BA from T1) I just stick my day ticket on one of the banks of ticket machines by the information desk. If someone knows what it is and wants to use it the rest of the day why should I care?

I actually checked to see if anyone looking confused was at the ticket machines, with a plan to give it to them, but there was no one at that moment.

I do that as well. Not just in Germany. I see no difference in my using a day pass or 24-hr pass for the whole time period, or my using it for a partial period and another person the rest.

I remember one time taking the S-Bahn to the airport with a couple of friends who were leaving a day before myself and got checked on the way back into the city and the ticket inspector asked me where I had bought the partner-tageskarte gesamtnetz which I thought was odd. Said Rosenheimerplatz and that was the end of it.

I've done that before but people seem to think you are trying to scam them so that's why I just leave it stuck to the machine now.
