Munich Airport Question

We are departing from Terminal 2 but have access to Lounges in Terminal 1 (via Priority Pass). Questions..after checking in at T2 and going through security, can you easily walk to T1 without leaving the secure area? How long is the walk from T1 to T2?

5-10 minutes, but your problem will be getting airside to access the PP lounges... security won't let you go airside with T2 boarding passes.

Code:

Lounge Information
Airport: munich - Franz-Josef Strauss, Terminal 1
Lounge: europa lounge

Location: Airside - Module D, Level 5 (Schengen Area). Take the stairs or elevator to the transfer corridor and follow signs to where the Lounge is located.

Opening Hours: 06:00 - 20:30 daily.

Conditions: Children under 2 years are admitted free - Non-smoking.

Lounge Facilities: Air Conditioning Alcohol Available Flight Information Monitor Internet/Dataport Newspapers/Magazines Available Refreshments Available Television WiFi Available
Airport: munich - Franz-Josef Strauss, Terminal 1
Lounge: atlantic lounge

Location: Airside - Module C, Level 5 (Non-Schengen Area). There is direct elevator access to the Lounge behind Passport and Security Control.

Opening Hours: 06:00 - 23:00 daily.

Conditions: Children under 2 years are admitted free - Non-smoking.

Lounge Facilities: Air Conditioning Alcohol Available Disabled Access Flight Information Monitor Internet/Dataport Newspapers/Magazines Available Refreshments Available Showers Available Television WiFi Available

There is an airside interterminal bus between T1 and T2 which runs every 10-15 mins. You could try and use that one to get airside in T1 and walk back to T2 when you want.

So if I understand correctly, you cannot walk from T2 to T! without leaving the secured area?

What is the minimum connection time for a long-haul international flight (from the US) to short-haul domestic flight at MUC (both flights on Lufthansa)? I see a 30 minute connecting flight show up when checking flights on continental.com website and am wondering if this is doable, especially as, I assume, you need to go through passport control at MUC.

As Munich Airport's website confirms the MCT is 30 mins even when a longhaul flight is involved. If your incoming flight is not very late you should be fine. As long as you are on one ticket LH will put you on a later flight to your destination should you miss your connection.

When they say minimum connect time in Munich, though, they mean it. You will need to be prompt and focused about deplaning from your longhaul and passing through immigration and security and getting to your onward flight, but you won't need to run unless your flight is late. They may even have an escort waiting at the top of the ramp to help you make your flight (although I wouldn't count on it).

That said, Munich is one of the world's most efficient airports which is why they allow a 30 minute MCT.

There's no need to clear security in MUC if arriving from the US.

I thought that European airports were now required to rescreen anyone not flying from within Europe. Is this only true for Munich or do you know if it applies to FRA as well (where my next connection will be)?

Good news if Europe now recognizes US screening as adequate. (If only the reverse would also be the case).

From personal experience, MUC will do what they need to to get you to your tight connection. More than once I've been met at the bottom of the stairs by a van waiting to take me directly to my next aircraft on a slightly late arriving flight.

It also applies to other German airports but in FRA it depends on where you arrive. If your flight arrives at Z gates (former A51-65 gates) there's no need for further security. If you arrive in B or C, you'll have to clear security before your connecting flight because there's no way arrivals from the US can be segregated from pax arriving from other "unclean" countries.

As you will see in the article below one-stop security has been implimented in Germany (and some other countries?) but not throughout Europe.

Thanks for the update, NewbieRunner. Welcome news, indeed, although too bad that there is the segregation issue in FRA, which is probably the dragnet I got caught in last time (and may again).

The 30 minutes MCT at MUC airport is quite impressive! Most US airports would not allow a 30 minute connection on domestic connection, especially a connection that involves a long-haul international flight.

I am trying to decide if I should go for the 30 minute connection or take my time with a longer 2.5 hour connection and relax a bit at the Senator Lounge.

If it were me, I'd go for the 2.5 hour connection and relax. If you miss the 30 minute connection and the next flight is sold out, you might have a long wait.
