Superstitions - what are yours?
Have or know any gaming superstitions you'd like to share?
For me, in craps, I tend to go all off on bets when a roller throws one or both dice off the table (this one's a common one from what I've seen). A friend of mine, also for craps, hates it when there is a change in stickman(person). |
Yesterday, at Borgata, I saw something for the first time.
A shooter was hitting a lot of numbers (I was just watching.) but was not throwing the dice to the end of the table. They were certainly getting thrown, not slid. He was tossing them 2-3 feet into the air. Another player was playing big money-$500+ on each inside number. Anyway, the shooter and floor person got into it a bit and they kicked the shooter off the table! They give him all of his bets (including passline) back. He only had $15 on the passline. They then passed the dice to the other end of the table and gave the dice to another player. He had to shoot the already established point. If I were playing, I would have picked up all bets possible. Bad feeling. No one picked up their bets. The guy throws the dice.....7 out. |

When playing slots/VP on my HET card, I tend to stop playing/switch machines when my session points are a multiple of 7.

Texas Hold'em player here. When I am Under-the-gun (first to act after the mandatory Small and Big Blinds), I'll peek at my cards one at a time. Rest of other position I take a look at them both at the same time. Don't know why, but I keep doing this.
I also drink nothing but vodka crans at the table, even in the afternoons (I don't play poker in the mornings) |
If I see a beautiful (non hooker) woman in a casino I think its very bad luck if I don't make a reasonable try to get some lovin'.
People are really funny with their superstitions, I was making a few points once, and someone gave me a high 5, and someone yelled, "leave his hand alone" another time, a crazy old woman next to me would clap her hands and do two complete spins between rolls. The most fun was this big black dude at the table who before every roll would bang the dice down twice and yell "Come on 6 8 pimpin'!" each time he threw. |
Hands in the table
My superstition is when I am at the craps table and the dice are thrown and the dice hit someone's hands or fingers that were not pulled out of the table quick enough, I will follow the person to their room or out of the hotel and break their fingers....laughing....just kidding.
My superstition at the craps table is that I will not look at the dice when thrown to the other end of the table. I will keep my eyes down at the bets and wait for the call. |

I've come across a shooter like that a couple of times. One time the floor person gave the shooter grief but another floor person told him to shut it as apparently the shooter was a VIP of some sort and they let him continue. We had a ball of a time. :)
it should be just a universal rule .. kind of like my superstition of always looking for first-time women shooters, always unbelievable beginners luck lol |
For table games, my superstition is that if I drink more, I'll care less about the 5.25% house edge. :)
Also, I think it is bad luck to not tip double for the first drink a new bartender pours. Especially at Mugsy's Bar in the 'Mingo when I'm doing the VP == free drinks deal. I guess my only real superstition is in Texas Hold'em; I bet stronger with pocket 9's than similar 8's or 10's. They've been good to me before. |

I hold my dice in a certain way on come-out and subsequent rolls.
If there is a prolonged break in the action (new player making trouble, debate over a payout, stickman is slow), everything is off until another number is rolled. This has definitely worked out more often than not. |
