STL closed

Travel advisory issued:

http://www.frontierairlines.com/fron...nfo/weather.do

Travelers booked through Monday 5/2 can switch to Kansas City, Indianapolis, Louisville or Nashville.

I wonder how long STL will really be closed...

Knope,

On the other sites it appears it is primarily dependent on how soon power can be restored.

The replies are stating that Concourse C sustained the most damage. The Mayor and others providing updates from STL are stating that they believe they could have the airport operating at 70% capacity by tomorrow. Less damage according to reports to Concourse A and Terminal 2 which is where WN is the dominant carrier.

Here is a link to a discussion on AA FlyerTalk that has great updates on what his happening/happened so far at STL.

(Hopefully I don't get in trouble for cross referencing posts, only major one I can find that has valuable updates.)

So far no deaths report, keeping fingers crossed, really scary for the folks there, can't even imagine.

Charlie.

Thanks for the updates!

I wish things were more clear, but I'm probably going to be safe and switch an upcoming trip STL-MKE to Louisville-Milwaukee. It's a week out, but at the time/date I need the alternate cities have almost no seats left. I fear if I wait to see how things shake out, I might have no STL flight and no seats on an alternate.

Update

I spoke with an agent, who said they are being told there's a 70% chance that tomorrow's flights will operate.

In addition, although my flight is in the "advisory period", because I have not yet begun travel and my flight has not canceled, a fare difference would apply. The alternate-airport option is for those whose trip has already begun, and for those who have seen their flight canceled.

So...STL it is, at least for now. I'm fortunate that travel is a week out, so there's a good shot my flight will still operate. The crappy thing is that alternate cities are so full on my travel date that if my flight does cancel a few days from now, there probably won't be alternatives at that point.

On the bright side, I'll have some first-hand experience seeing how bad STL really is. Seeing a youtube video of Terminal E was interesting since I've spent quite a bit of time there, and E wasn't even hit badly. I wonder what the main terminal and esp C are like.

I thought I heard in a press conference this morning that Airtran and Frontier may have to move to a different concourse. I saw pictures of the C Concourse. Part of the roof was blown off and jetways were damaged.

Sounds like AirTran and Frontier are likely to set up shop in the B concourse, which has been closed for awhile. Hearing conflicting things about where American, by far the biggest airline on the heavily-damanged C concourse, will go. FL and F9 don't need nearly as much space as AA does.

According to a post on airliners.net, F9 moved to B10 and FL moved to B12.

Knope what's your flight status look like?

knope2001 Apr 25, 2011 6:00 pm

Should be okay. They've been running routinely today, so I should be good. I'm eager to see how STL looks.

Thanks for posting the link to the pics. It is a wonder how more people weren't injured.

Just read in the AA forum that Concourse C was knocked 6" off of it's foundation and that the structure has to be torn down and rebuilt.

Can't say I'm surprised -- STL was really trashed. Huge parts of the main terminal and most of C itself, have nearly all windows replaced with plywood. Walking over to "B" the other evening, I could see out one of the remaining windows and looked at the flat rubber roof with huge shards of glass embedded and sticking out. It's amazing so few people were injured.
