Name the Badger!
|
I think the name should be Drake.
|
I looked up names that mean "badger" on the internet. Here is what I found.
Braxton ... Brock is an informal word for "badger" Brock ... "Badger-like." Brockhoist ... "Badger's den." Brockley ... "Meadow of the badger." Brockton ... "Badger settlement." I submitted Brock because I had a childhood friend by that name and we had a lot of fun. ;) |
I was at tonight's open house event, along with knope, RSVP and MostlyAir where the E190 with the badger tail was introduced.
Nice event. Jim Reichart, VP of sales, dsitribution and loyalty for the combined carrier, was the only speaker, and he addressed the couple hundred folks who attended. It was appropriate that he speak, considering most of those in attendance seemed to be either travel agents or with companies that have corporate travel contracts with Midwest/Frontier. Reichart's comments largely echoed Bedford's comments from earlier this month when the Frontier brand was announced for the combined airline. He did indicate that cookies would be served on all Frontier flights by mid-summer, and that assigned seats will become standard on the existing F9 network. He also emphasized the market share advantage (via more nonstop flights to more places than the competition in Milwaukee) and listed off this year's new cities as they rebuild the Milwaukee hub. He also said that cities like Pittsburgh and St. Louis would love to have a growing hub operation, but don't. The E190 with the badger tail was in the hangar and shined up for all to see. This was an ex-US Airways bird, so the paint was fresh, but by looking at some of the engine components, you could tell it was not a brand new aircraft. In fact, I was told it still has a USAir interior. The goal is to have it redone in the F9 interior and put into revenue service within the next few days. Details of the "name the badger" contest are posted at frontiermidwest.com. I think Jim Reichart's voice should be used in the commercials that feature the Badger. :D At the end of the event, guests were given flower centerpieces from the tables, a tin canister of Midwest cookies (containing a $10-$50 voucher for future travel), and a "Flip" stuffed dolphin animal. Nice event. Simple, but well done. Definitely had a more casual feel than the brand announcement. Today felt a little bit more like the old Midwest events. The others can weigh in with their observations. |
Badger names
Badgers are mean, feral animals belonging to the weasel family. Hmmm, names that come to mind:
Tim the Badger Toni the Badger Jay the Badger Hopefully, unlike their (YX) namesake they won't destroy the F9 ship with greed, insolence and obstreperous behaviors. |
The news broadcasts tonight covered the unveiling of the Badger E190:
http://www.wisn.com/2010/0429/23310579_640X480.jpg Each mentioned the contest and invited viewers to click the link on their website to enter. I may have missed it, but have any rules and regulations come out, yet? I did see the legal language relating to ownership of the winning entry and related terms, but nothing about duplicate entries, etc. (usually states that the earliest entry takes precedent). And, the most important question... :) What does the successful entrant win? It might be fun to have the three finalists provide a short bio for their badger, like the animal tales on the F9 site. They are very clever. http://www.frontierairlines.com/fron...nimal-tales.do |
Perhaps MostlyAir can give us an update on the reponse, so far.

It's actually doing pretty well, a little bit better than what I expected. You guys can probably guess what name is sitting in first, but of course won't be accepted.
Still waiting for Knope to submit a name.. :D Or are you looking for a better submission from me? Actually I submitted two, one under my name and one under my SO's name. Are you guys good with more than one entry per person? |

The system limits entries to one per email address, so you are good.

Just think of all of the wonderful suggestions you would be missing out on, if each person submitted only one name. :D |

http://www.frontiermidwest.com/weare...he-badger.aspx Your vote could win you $1,000 toward Frontier Airlines flights Good job on the contest, MostlyAir and company! |

To be completely fair, the order of the names rotates, each time someone connects to the link. Too bad they can't do that when we vote for public officials. :D
Good job on the contest, MostlyAir and company! Thank you, we put a lot of work behind these pages. There's a lot that you don't see that is going on. |

Cookie
Really?
I understand the rationale for the name, but no Badger should be named Cookie. Now Chip, that'd be a whole different story. |

I hope Cookie wins so it will be that much more awkward down the road when the cookies are eliminated (as many have predicted). "Why is it called Cookie again?" ;)
|
Much as I'd like to win a grand in flight credits, I must say that's a very nice touch to keep entries restricted to WI addys. ^ Good luck to all!
|
Nice coverage on local WTMJ-TV this morning of the contest finalists, including a teaser before a commercial break.
Melissa McCrady chose Buddy, FYI. |
The "Name the Badger" contest continues to generate lots of free publicity for Frontier.
One blogger at the Seattle Post is not happy that voting is restricted to Wisconsin residents only. Therefore, he is asking his readers to vote for the name "Stinkin" via his on-line poll. http://blog.seattlepi.com/aerospace/archives/208143.asp Even Hollywood is taking notice: http://www.hollywoodnews.com/2010/05...ella%E2%80%9D/ Might the Badger be named after Kristen Stewart's Twilight character "Bella?" The Frontier Marketing team has really done a great job executing this promotion ^ |

The Midwest homepage promotes voting in the "Name the Badger" contest, by showing a bar graph listing the three name options, and a link for voting.
Does this bar graph show accurate results, to date, or is it just artistic license? |

I want full election coverage
What counties did Buddy carry, where is the Red/Blue sections of the state?
When did the election get officially called? A simple press release that could have been written even before voting ended yesterday at Summerfest simply just will not due. |

I voted for Bella but Buddy would have been my second choice. I hope Frontier's ad company is going to do commercials starring Buddy. :)
When do we find out who won the prizes? |
Bing Travel named one of of F9's aircraft as having an "amazing airplane paint job."
http://bit.ly/hlw7Qu Looks a little tame, though, compared to some of the others recognized. |
