Tier points earning on codeshare flights
I’m going to buy a ticket from Finnair that includes a segment operated by OW partner (Finnair codeshare), may I know how is the tier point and award point earning calculated for that particular segment? Is it based on Finnair earning chart or that of the partner airline?
if the segments are handled in different ways, under the new spend-based system, will the Finnair segment be calculated based on a portion of the total ticket price, and the codeshare portion based on distance and cabin class? |
We know nothing about this. My guess is that we will only learn from experience. And there might be a lot of problems in the beginning.
However, if you have an AY flight number, one could assume that you earn points as if you flew AY. |

Points from Finnair flights Finnair codeshare flights You can also earn points from Finnair codeshare flights operated by our partners (flight numbers AY2501–AY7000). The number of points depends on your ticket type or booking class and the distance flown. Codeshare flights are flights that are shared between two or more airlines. They have a Finnair flight number but are operated by a partner airline. Read more about codeshare flights in our FAQ https://www.finnair.com/fi-en/finnai...s-from-flights |

Putting a man on the Moon was child's play compared to working out, how many avios you'd get on any given flight and where to credit what to maximise earnings.
Now for redemptions, if we compare it to the Mars mission... |
Just wondering if there is any further clarity on codeshares. My question is a little different to the OPs. Earnings rate on AA D class is 250% miles flown. On JAL it is only 125%. If I fly on JAL metal ticketed as an AA codeshare on a OW Explorer ticket, which earnings rate would I get?

Earning to AAdvantage on OW Explorer tickets a little more complicated. They have specific rules, as this AA forum thread --> https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/amer...age-miles.html And as AA is now revenue based for AA, BA etc and distance fare class based for some OW airlines is more complicated again. Possible you may earn more(or less) to AA when based on the partner distance fare class model (not revenue based) compared to AA marketed flight revenue model. No simple answer. With the recently announced BAEC changes who know if crediting to BA. Are posts in the OW forum *ONE* sticky threads on this interesting topic. |
We're in the Finnair forum so I assume this is about crediting to AY..
