Interesting read...I was wondering what is going on as AY played around with my upcoming 005 schedule...could it be that the new departure time is just too tight for the Russian/Baltic connections now, especially during winter months...14.10 departure seemed to work better? Anyway earlier arrival into JFK opens up much better connections with AA(codeshares), which I guess is the reason for the schedule change in the first place.

If you misconnect by fault of AY, then delay in your final destination counts, thus EC261 applies. If you are delayed due to e.g. AA's delay during your connection, EC261 doesn't apply. However, had there been an EU airline operating 5th freedom flight, the regulation would apply.

This is correct. Missing a connection at an airport outside the EU due to an eligible delay on a flight operated from the EU to that airport on a single ticket does count for EU261. I'm just wondering how one can get AY to divulge the real reason for the delay rather than blame it on something that's extraordinary.

I'll be taking AY5 on Monday, with an 80-minute connection to a domestic flight... Looking at the recent track record, it seems like an almost certain rebooking. Fingers crossed.

What is the MCT at T8 int’l - dom? In any case 80mins is crazy short and something many would never book. Same PNR and you are of course protected but either running w/ an escort and/or extra hassle at best...good luck!

I suppose 80 mins is within the MCT, since they were willing to sell it on the same PNR. I know full well that it's borderline impossible, but my rationale was that if I'm lucky I'll get to my destination quickly. And if I'm not, my flight is not the last flight of the day to my destination, so they should be able to get me there eventually.

People, when you get the orange short connection envelope with your bp when exiting the plane, USE IT! I've used it many times to just cut the line (politely ofc), but be certain that just holding it in your hand no one will not escort or fetch you.
