New menus now loaded ex HEL (on Finnish page only ex ARN loaded so far). Looks better.

Are all the items traditional/typical Finnish cuisine? One of the advantages of flying non-US airlines is eating food not typically eaten in US restaurants.

I kind of like the new menu and also the idea of choosing your side separately, let’s see how this goes in practice but doesn’t sound too bad on paper..

For SIN, there seems to be no sides to select, I guess it is not a select route?

Interesting they will serve the main meal after take-off, like 1 am local time. And before landing (7pm local) they'll offer a pie, a smaller meal I guess. With a 13h flight, it sounds like a good chance of needing to bring BurgerKing along? Especially if one focuses on sleep.

Under coffee I see Espresso and Cappucino listed. I haven't been following new cabin stuff, has there been a change in machinery? Ie can they make coffee now, or is this going to be the vile instant stuff?

Last month I flew from Asia with AY and they offered the chance to eat on demand, whenever you wanted. Not idea if this was just the crew or something that would be widely possible..they also had lots of snacks on offer and crew actively offered those all flight long..rarely have I been that stuffed after 13hrs in the air..😀

I think they will do the plating separately rather than in the carousel dish heated up together now. Assumed the sides are basically the accompaniments listed and as they plate things up now so I guess u get to choose?

seems a slight improvement but compared to precovid seems still a bit less food? Still no soup?

ffay005 May 11, 2022 5:44 pm

I hardly believe they will plate anything on board.

My guess is that the menus without separate sides will be served as a one-tray service just like now, and the ones where the side is not on the same plate with the main course will be served so that you will first receive a tray with the appetizers and then the main course and side on two plates.

I wonder why they've combined the food and beverage menus. Wouldn't it be cheaper to print them separately, with no stapling needed, instead of one stapled booklet?

”We have decided to eliminate paper menus for a hygienic contactless as well as sustainable experience” will probably come up next…

As for the menus themselves, I see some versions are printed in both official languages of Finland. Haven't seen that in a long time.:tu:
I wonder if ARN based longhauls had anything to do with that change.

i think they have limited the language to three so Asian languages overrule Swedish 👎🏽. I think four languages would have been possible or only French to be Classical.

Then, they must first invent a french word for the new concept, like bistro lésinir ;)

LAX-HEL today

Food and drinks with the new concept but with old seats. The purser was seemingly excited about the new menu as well. Got to try two dessert items, thanks for that!

Service was extremely good this time with super duper plat greetings.

McCarran may I ask what that main actually is?

Similar to the HEL outbound to the States excluding JFK, I wonder if the HEL inbound from the States share the same menu.
