Higher fuel surcharges for redemptions?
Today Finnair has cheaper redemptions for Northern Europe.
However, somebody noticed at their Facebook page that a paid ticket is actually cheaper than a redemption ticket (HEL-CPH in January).
I had to check it myself:
Paid HEL-CPH: Fare 20EUR, YR 30EUR.
Redemption HEL-CPH: YR 60EUR.
End result: The paid ticket is 5EUR cheaper than the redemption ticket. Does this make any sense?
IMHO it is a bit dishonest to have a higher "insurance and fuel fee" for redemption tickets.

One would hope this is illegal as the fees do not change between paid ticket stubs...
Its a shame AY prices its own points to be fairly worthless... I was looking at doing a poland trip but with over 100€ in fees no point to use AY...

YR on redemption is the same regardless of fare class. Meaning that YR on a business redemption is lower than the corresponding business ticket. I don't know why, but this is just another reason to never redeem econ tickets.

Yeah, YR follows bookingclass and it is flexible.
HEL-CPH-HEL with class H is YR 84€ and R HEL-CPH-HEL goes with YR 30€.
YR has nothing to do with fuel, it is only one pricing element in the crazy world of pricing airline tickets.
