Yes, you'd book a three-night stay via Virtuoso (or AMEX FHR or Travel Leaders Group or any similar program) and then call FPC to apply the 3rd night free cert and suite upgrade cert.
The upgrade is confirmed at time of booking, but is only deducted at time of check-in.
One note: When applying a free night cert / 3rd night free cert towards a Virtuoso / AMEX FHR / Travel Leaders Select booking, you're technically not entitle dto any benefits on that night (i.e. no free breakfast on the 3rd night, though some hotels still provide it as a courtesy)

You can apply a suite upgrade cert towards a higher room category, but there's usually no reason to do so since you'd still get the same suite category.

Any ideas on what to do with my last three (don't ask) free nights.
Looking for great beach and pools. Sunny of course. August time. Suite availability. Easy to get to with miles from East coast or Detroit.
Bermuda Southampton looks nice.
Or is there a property I MUST visit before I say to hell with Accor Le Suck!
Looking for some ideas now...

Alternatively, the Fairmont Royal Pavillon Barbados is a very nice hotel, too.
THe Fairmont Kea Lani probably offers the best value since it's an all-suite property and rates tend to be quite high, but not exactly convenient in terms of getting there from the East Coast.
Fairmont Mayakoba could be a good option if you stack the free night cert with a suite upgrade cert.

Thanks guys. I have done the San Diego property which is amazing. Ditto with Kea Lani, loved it too.
I will take a look at the Barbados property. And Mayakoba looks great...and it may be easiest to get to.
Jasper2009: You have been the greatest FT moderator ever. Not sure what is going to happen with the Fairmont board here but if it does fold into Accor...we will miss you man!

The Fairmont forum will be integrated into the Accor forum eventually, though the exact details haven't been decided on yet.
I guess as part of the integration I could adopt my posting pattern to offer a more streamlined experience consistent with the new Accor program:
- my responding will be based on availability, my mood and my ability to find any excuse not to respond
- responses will be provided either by me directly or my highly qualified pet monkey who'll provide a personalized auto-response to any of your enquiries
- as a long-time, valued forum participant you can expect a response within 1-3 weeks*
* except during higher-than-average periods of forum participation or when my monkey has fallen asleep

hey jasper, trying to look on the FAQ for this question which I assume is common. but i cant find it. please let me know if im being stupid.
so i assume using a free night cert does NOT count as "qualifying rate" towards status right? i only ask because for other chains, they do such as SPG and Hyatt. wish fairmont was the same. just wanted to verify.

Just in case Jasper's monkey is busy (see posts above), no, the free nights do not count.

Free night doesn't count. As per Fairmont Q&A:
What is considered a qualifying stay?
To receive a stay credit, reservations must be made at qualifying rates. Qualifying rates are determined by Fairmont in its sole discretion and can be deemed non-qualifying at any given time without prior notice. Travel-industry rates (including, but not limited to airline crew rates, travel agent rates and tour group escort rates) or other deeply discounted rates will not be considered qualifying rates toward member status. Complimentary or barter room stays or any stays booked through any third party online travel channel website (including, but not limited to: HotelTonight.com, Booking.com, Rocketmiles.com, Priceline.com, Expedia.com, Hotels.com, Hotwire.com, Lastminute.com, Travelocity.com, Orbitz.com, Travelweb.com) are considered as not qualifying and will not be eligible for credit.

Free nights used to post as qualifying nights more often than not IME when booked as part of a stay consisting of multiple nights, but more recently it seems they post as "non-qualifying" fairly consistently.
I shall add this to the FAQ. Thanks!

Hello,
Does the Reservation concierge still exist as a benefit for Premier and Platinum members ?
Also has anyone ever experienced this ? I contacted a Fairmont property to inquire about a "resident" rate and compare it with the current private sale rate https://www.fairmont.com/promotions/private-sale/ (promo code: PJNY) that was showing an interesting price for my desired dates. The next day, I receive a follow-up from the property saying the rate PJNY is not available for the date, so I go to Fairmont.com to check again and weirdly the promo code is no longer working on my desired dates or any other date combination.
Could it be that the property realized the rate coming with promo code PJNY is too cheap and decided to disable it ?
Thanks
