Really, AF/KLM swept Europe? I guess they did the best job of highlighting the voting to their members. They most certainly do not have the best European programme - since the changes a couple of years back, they have one of the worst

What they get for winning - a cert in the mail or a trophy - matters much less than what the respect/value in the industry plays out as. I still think that the FlyerTalk awards are worth less in that space than the Freddies, but for different reasons.
http://www.flyertalk.com/awards/2013/ftaaward.jpg The freddies have 25 years under the belt, and the loyalty programs have a love/hate relationship for them. Blatant 'vote for me' spam does the trick, unlike Skytrax... |

Freddie Awards 2014
Does anyone have any attendance information for the 2014 Freddie Awards in Seattle, or any associated events that week there?
Specifically, I'm looking to attend the event, but here it is "invitation only." Looking to see whether anyone is able to extend an invitation, or if there's any option to purchase a ticket/seat. Email me at [email removed by moderator--please use this link or PM system instead] if you have details! Thanks! |
Since events are the purview of the CommunityBuzz forum, I'll move your post there.
I've also removed your email address from public view, since it's not a good idea to post email addresses on public forums--FlyerTalk is a popular website, and spam crawlers spider our website continually to harvest useful information. Posting your email publicly will almost guarantee your inbox will get flooded with spam. FlyerTalk has a Private Message system that you can use (although I think new members might not be able to send messages, only receive them), and there is also an "email user" link that sends an email to you through the FlyerTalk system so as to protect your anonymity. Hope this helps! jackal Moderator, Information Desk |

Win a free ticket to the April 25-27 2014 FTU in Seattle and a VIP invitation to the Freddies! |
Thanks, tom911, for the link. Since Freddie Awards are now associated with MilePoint I will move the thread to the External Miles and Points Resources forum.

The Freddies used to be open to FlyerTalkers to attend on Randy's dime, then for a while anyone could attend for a fee.
That's no longer the case. The New Freddies require an invitation from Randy or someone else at MilePoint/Freddie Awards, LLC/FTEF corp. More info (like who to suck up to to get a ticket): http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/18447363-post26.html |
To be fair, the Freddies for the last few years before they switched to the FTAwards and now back to the Freddies DID require an invitation. That invitation was sent out relatively last-minute and was generally open to all but it wasn't like they expected that random people would just show up at the ballroom and get in. Similarly, when it was run as the FTAwards it was relatively open invite but you were expected to be invited.

Not really. The bottom line is that Randy used to be incredibly generous to this community around the Freddies. Ridiculously so, imho. :) Now it's run more like a business. |

There is an interesting discussion going on about such kind of industry awards in Germany: http://www.baltimoresun.com/business...,3208972.story
