This is where I side with the bloggers. Far to many people think they are "smart people" and somehow they are the only ones able to work out the deals. It's not as hard as people like to make out.

One would think so but have you seen the questions some people ask in the comments from MMS' blog or Dan's?

I have a game changer, and I'm going to blog about it. But then, when I do it dies....

So you like me for a moment then forget about me,onto the next big piece of game changing news...ill probably have to keep half hearted posts coming by regurgitation of the other guys Til I next find something that changes your game :)

It's a tough life making 6 figures as a blogger. At the end of the day, all we are looking for is a little love, and maybe a hug.

I actually think it's easy to make six figures as a blogger. Just get a job that pays six figures and put your thoughts on miles and trip reports in a blog :)

Bingo! The reason my blog is a labor of love rather than anything more is I can make far more money in the real world doing other stuff. I did think initially I'd like to get card links just for friends & family that I've introduced to all this, but it's more effort than I am willing to put in for the small return.

What a difference a few years make.

3 years ago or so, when someone had a game changer, they posted it on FlyerTalk out of a convivial spirit with no expectation of remuneration via affiliate links, ads or otherwise. Not even a hug. ;)

Knock yourself out. Just keep in mind that you're arguably violating the T&C of FT which claims to own rights to the posts made here. It isn't me you have to ask permission of, technically speaking.

Er, no its not.

Things you do NOT need to make a success of it:
An attractive site (as Ben and Gary prove!)
Any sort of IT ability
Any sort of marketing ability
Any sort of educational qualification
Any upfront capital investment

Things you DO need:
A genuine love of and knowledge of miles and points, and the ability to articulate that through good writing

In fact, as long as you meet the criteria at the bottom, I can't think of an easier way to build a $100k pa business from scratch, part time, with no capital investment.

It's more than that, and it's my single biggest beef with this community. I'm headed to FTU, and I love what we do there, but what I DON'T like is the "gate lice" condescension.

My blog is proudly for the 99%, and I think that's the bottom line problem with some FTers' issues with affiliate links: they don't like their secrets being let out of the clubhouse, and GOD FORBID anyone profit by helping some plebe out there in the sticks get to his family reunion more inexpensively. FTB is CC link free, but I saw some pretty strong haterade from the trolls at the beginning for Amazon links that literally earned pennies.

Yeah I was joking about it being a tough life, more of a throw that out there to see how much sympathy there is for people in the 6 figure range.

Anyways, the crowd is very demanding, and snipey, but that isn't a bad thing, even people who hate a site/blogger are complaining about it so much that they drive traffic there, and no doubt check the site frequently to see what else the evil blogger has revealed to their detriment. As long as you can stomach that you still get the traffic stats you need.

Now, I do disagree regarding ability to market and use technology. I think that understanding guerrilla marketing (if you aren't paying for it) is very important, as is SEO along with.

Also, I don't think it is fair cite bloggers that work for Boarding Area etc as proof of not needing technical skills since part of what boarding area offers is the platform. If you are standalone, like myself then you need to know what to do when your site vanishes on a software upgrade, as it did last week.
