In Vienna, can you recommend ....

... a great place to have an authentic Wiener Schnitzel?

During the upcoming Labour Day Weekend (Canada, US), I have a business class reward on LH from YUL to VIE and great rate at the Hilton.

I had a Wiener Schnitzel at Café Imperial and it was very good, though 'grand hotel style'. S'Parks Resraurant makes great schnitzels as well.

Would any Vienna natives or connaisseurs recommend another place around Bezirk 1 or 3?

Danke!

Hi,

I suggest to have the Wiener Schnitzel at Restaurant Figlmueller (www.figlmueller.at) in Wollzeile 5, 1010 Vienna.

Decent location with HUGE schnitzel, authentic location in central Vienna. Tables can be reserved on their website, however, it might already be difficult to get a table.

Regards,

As this topic has nothing to do with M&M I'll move this thread to the Europe forum.

Have a nice day,

I was there and I didn't like it. It's not authentic but just a place for tourists. The schnitzels are hugh indeed but way to cheap for that size so the meat quality can't be any good.

I did like Café Sperl. There are also some nice restaurants in the "Alte Ambulanz". I don't know if they offer schnitzel, though.

I don't know from Wiener Schnitzel (though I had a nice one here on a very cold wintry day: http://www.ferdinandt.at/lokal.asp ), but don't miss a brotchen at Trzesniewski (http://www.trzesniewski.at/cms2/index.php). MUST SEE in Wien. I suggest "drei speck mit ei" with a beer.

i can only second the recomendation.

i disagree on the "tourist place", i know a lot of locals that go there frequently. i'm no vienna local (i'm from salzburg) but i've been there a few times, its probably the place the OP is looking for...

I have noted them all, thank you.

Now I have to plant them on the map to make sure that I visit at least one or two during my 48 hour stay in Vienna.

If you're staying at the Hilton Vienna on Stadtpark, you can walk across the street to the MAK:

And have a huge, very good Wiener Schnitzel there at Österreicher im MAK:

http://www.oesterreicherimmak.at/gasthaus_e.html

I've had it a couple of times. I also like the atmosphere in the bar area where you can get a table.

At least it is the only restaurant that advertises their schnitzels at the airport :)

I agree that the MAK is a wonderful place to dine. We had to reserve a table in advance though. First evening we tried und just stopped by but without success (well we could have waited for 30 min. but we didn't want to).

+1

The schnitzel at the restaurant at MAK is excellent (we ate there several times - everything we tried was tasty but the Schnitzel and the Chicken w/paprika really stood out)

Update from Vienna

There are MANY places serving schnitzels of all kinds, prices and qualty.

Yesterday had a great schnitzel at S,parks (Hilton). It was good and pricey.

A moment ago, I had Tafelspitz at Plachutta. It was quite a culinary experience worth the price. Everything is extra...

Muellerbeisl at Seilerstatte 15... an old favorite. Of course, proximity may influence my opinion, as I lived across the street for a year.

Just checked out the website which has a link to a menu which doesn't list the Wiener Schnitzel. Is it something they would make everyday or perhaps only on special days?

I see Wiener Schnitzel on the menu linked above, page 4 "classical Viennese Cuisine", 3rd option down in the main dish section.
