Hostel recommendations for Prague

Hi,

I am posting on behalf of my friend who will be traveling to Prague at the end of April. Last time I was in Prague was back in 2001, and I am sure a lot has changed with the hostel scene since.

My friend is a mid twenties working guy who does not have much experience traveling in Europe. He is traveling solo and/or with one other friend. While he could probably afford an inexpensive hotel, I recommended a hostel given the social able factor and the ability to meet other travelers to hang out with and explore the city (or go out at night).

Personally, from my hostel experiences I preferred a private room with a private shower versus sharing bulk-beds with 16 people, and I think my friend would prefer that as well.

Price is the least important factor, I guess location, comfort, and the social factor are a priority.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Kind regards,

George

You might try the Budget Travel forum that gets a bit more traffic than this forum: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=597

I stayed 5 nights at Hostel Rosemary when I was in Prague this January. The hostel was very quiet and the rooms were fantastic. Large kitchen/eating area in the room, private bathroom and the beds were clean and comfortable. The rathe I believe was about $25/night/person. It's very well located - a 5 minute walk to Old Town and Wenceslas (sp?) Sqaure and just around the corner from the main train station.

You can check out ratings and reviews of Hostel Rosemary and other Prague hostels at www.myhostelworld.com

A lot of people like Sir Toby's, but I think it's a bit outside the city center. I recommend Hostel Junior if your friend is a social guy. It has a bowling alley, pizza place, and lounge, and it's right in the heart of Prague. This site has more info on it.
