Vienna Hotels?

Hi everyone, in the midst of planning a trip to Europe this summer and looking for some suggestions on hotels in Vienna. We would like to be near the Ringstrausse, so that we are within walking distance to most of the sites and are hoping to keep it around 250 euros per night. Any suggestions or recommendations are welcome.

Thanks in advance.

A lot of the hotels inside the Ringstrasse are ridiculously expensive (remember, OPEC is based in Vienna, and there are also quite a number of UN and other International agencies there that attract bigwigs), but I can think of at least three hotels on the Ringstrasse where I've stayed in the past that should meet your price requirements.

I would highly recommend the Vienna Marriott, which has nice sized rooms and a friendly, efficient staff. My second choice would be the Radisson SAS Palais Hotel, though it's definitely not of the same calibre as Radisson SAS hotels in the Scandinavian capitals or in Amsterdam or Brussels. Both the Marriott and the Radisson SAS are on the Parkring, close to a U-Bahn station, and probably within 0.5 kilometer/one-third a mile of St. Stephen's Square. They're a little further from the Hofburg, Albertina, Kunsthistorische Museum, and Museum Quarter, but not appreciably.

I'm less enthusiastic about the Hotel de France, which I found tired and in need of renovation when I was there about 4 years ago. Good luck.

My 2 choices would be the Marriott or the Hilton (the Hilton on the Ring, not the Danube or Plaza one). I've heard really good things about the Bristol (think it's *Wood?), but the Marriott & Hilton are the 2 I've stayed at. ANA is supposedly nice too; I've attended a black-tie event there, but not stayed overnight. Marriott forum has a bunch of codes, a # of which are publicly available so you could plug those in to try & get your rate around 250E.

I went to school in Vienna & am going back in June for the 50th Anniversary of my alma mater's program. I love Vienna. Enjoy your stay.

Cheers.

I would definitely go for the Le Meridien hotel, which is right on the Opernring (unless the very modern style is not to your taste). I've had nothing but excellent experiences here.

I would suggest the following hotels. You may or may not be able to get them for 250E, just depending on when you go and what, if any, specials they are running. You may as well start at the top of the list and work down!

Hotel Imperial
Grand Hotel
Hotel Sacher
Hotel Bristol

All of them are grand, and you will feel like you are staying in a palace. They are all very close to the Opera, except the Grand Hotel, which is close to Stephans Dom.

Are there two hotels called the "Grand"? The Grand that I am familiar with is the one located at Kartner Ring 9, on the same side of the street of (and just down the block from) the Bristol. It was recently owned by ANA Hotels, but is now owned by the JJW Group.

I really like the Bristol (affiliated with Westin, so it has the Heavenly Beds). It's very elegant but not as rococo-stuffy as the Imperial (and it's right across the street from the Staatsoper, so close that you can go back to your room during imtermission, if needed).

Check the promotions (arrangements) offered by these hotels, as they sometimes offer specials such as a "stay three nights, get the fourth night free" - I stayed at the Bristol under such a plan that brought my rate (inclusive of breakfast) to USD 200 per night over four nights,

I have stayed at the Marriott and the location worked great for me. Not far from the ring and close to everything.

For what it's worth, most Priceline 4* bids in the Ring are either Marriott or Le Meridien.

The Hilton Stadtpark is very convenient (and a decent hotel) as it is directly across the street from the train station where the CAT train is (this is the train that brings you into town from the airport, really the best way to go in my opinion). Anything else will require a taxi. The Hilton is also within walking distance of the sights of the inner city.

I agree that most hotels inside the ringstrasse are ridiculously expensive. Walk across the street and pay a fraction of what they charge you on the other side (with the center of Vienna being pretty small, btw).

Like everything it will depend on personal taste, but I very much enjoyed my stay at the Carlton Opera, a modest 3-star hotel apparently not affiliated with the Carlton chain. The atmosphere is rather informal and familiar, not snobby at all as their pompous name would suggest. I was lucky and for my last 2 days they offered me an upgrade to one of the 4-star suites they also have around the corner - in a spectacular neogothic turn of the century building, complete with kitchen and washing machine - which I gladly accepted (breakfast was still at the hotel). They apparently were overbooked. I paid not even half of what you had in mind per night :D

Regarding the location: there's a page on their website dedicated to their relative proximity to the center. If one does not mind a 5 minutes walk, a hotel like this one just outside the ring street is a perfect deal. Even residing right next to St. Stephen's cathedral, one couldn't get faster to the Opera or the Museums Quarter complex, au contraire! In any case, the public transport system in Vienna is excellent!

The Ringstrasse encompasses the whole city centre, so if you want to minizime distances and walk around you'll want to be in the part of it that's close to the Opera. As others said, the Meridien and the Bristol are smack there. The Imperial is a bit further down and the Stadtpark area makes for a bit of a trek.
If a just-average hotel will do for you, you might want to have a look at the Mercure Zentrum, it's located between St. Stephen's cathedral and the Danube canal, quite central

Check for special rates at Hotel Bristol. The hotel is well located. Rooms are spacious and quiet. There is also so much 'opera' history with this hotel. And the staff really listens to you.

Pension Suzanne-about 110 euros per night. Located near the Opera. Stayed there last year and it was excellent. Recommended in Rick Steves book.

Le Meridien is on the Ring very near to the State Opera. Best location of all the hotels mwntioned above.

Also close to major tourist sites such as the Hofburg and major museums.
2 minute walk to all public transport at the Opera stop.

Not to hijack the thread, but quick question. I'll be at Vienna Hilton in June. I understand the CAT Train runs from airport to station across the street from the hotel. Anyone know what time it starts/ends? Cost? Cash or cc? On the arrival I'll probably be at normal times, but on the return I have a 7:40am flight on a Sunday morning so wondering how early it starts. Any info appreciated.

Cheers.
