Connect through CDG or AMS?
I will be flying from DTW to VCE in late May. I'm looking at 2 DL flights -- one connects through CDG and the other through AMS. The price and total travel time is almost the same. The scheduled equipment is slightly different for the leg to VCE -- CDG to VCE: Airbus A320 vs. AMS to VCE: Boeing 737.
Any advice on which airport to connect through would be appreciated. |
AMS is always a much easier connection -- no trains or shuttle buses to ride -- it's a one-roof terminal. CDG can be very difficult: marathon hikes, trains / buses, protracted security delays. Terminals spread out all over; it's as if CDG wasn't actually designed as a connecting hub but had that role forced on it post-construction, while AMS is a natural hub. CDG versus AMS is no contest... one of the very few non-debatable contests you'll find on FT. ;)

+1 yup

Avoid CDG whenever possible.

AMS. Hands down.
IIRC, DL will arrive in E. Lines to clear customs into Shengen and then reclear security usually aren't that long. However, some of the B and C gates can be a bit of a trek. |
AMS, always.

No question, AMS all the way.

Connect through CDG or AMS?
Avoid CDG. It never seems easy. It's been over a year since I went through CDG as I vowed to avoid it. It's a confusing mess even if you speak French.

CDG is awful. Avoid if possible. Every design was an afterthought.

CDG may be one of the least navigable airports there is. I would avoid it.

AMS rocks!

Moving this thread to the Europe forum. Thanks for your understanding.

Oh my gosh, the best thing they could do to CDG is destroy it and build from scratch knowing/ realising it is going to be an airport. One of these places where people depart or arrive in aeroplanes and sometimes both in (quick) succession!
Having said that, even if they rebuild it, they would still have to learn how to manage it. Thats another story... AMS by a million miles! |
