Ok so confused.com

Its now the 8th july so the changes have taken place I assume. Just looked at a mileage redemption Dublin to BKK in business and didn't see a discount of 30% as promised (the BKK route is one of the new discounted routes) on the AUH-BKK leg on the open seat so then I tried a separate auh-bkk booing and the shorter leg for the same dates cost more in a business saver open seat than the entire dub-BKK booking in an open seat on the same dates. Firstly where does the discount show for these discounted routes and secondly would you get the discount on the AUH to BKK part of the DUB-BKK routing or would you need separate redemptions...and of course why is AUH-BKK leg on the same date more than a longer leg DUB-BKK leg on the same dates

I liked the little intro the have at the top of the page

Get the best value for your Etihad Guest Miles with our GuestSeat flight rewards.Book a GuestSeat for the same or less miles than you would normally expect to pay with any other airline programme and enjoy the benefits of regular travel with us- and with no blackout periods. Kindly note that you will not be able to combine OpenSeat and GuestSeat reward in the same booking. :D

and BTW before anyone offers the help of Etihad Reservations I don't need flights I was just testing out the new mileage rates/discounted routes to try understand how they work..;)

From what I've seen, the "new" rates have not been introduced yet.

(Could it be that they have decided, as someone suggested upstream, that the "old" rates be retained for status members??? Or when they say "from 8 July" they actually mean "from 9 July". Or did they just forget? :D )

I can't believe you actually want to book an Open Seat. These are charged at over 4 times the rate of a GuestSeat, in the HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF MILES (6 figures), rather than the tens of thousands (5 figures) that apply to GuestSeats.

Why would ANYONE ever want to redeem for an OpenSeat????

really just wanted to see how the 30% off worked

but ex Dublin one way to BKK a saver seat (in business) was circa 80k miles and an open seat in business saver 100k. so if there was 30% off 100k miles it would work out less expensive..fat chance I hear you say!!!:D

New day new era for EtihadGuest

Checked a few random dates for SIN-AUH and AUH-LHR.
Only thing I notice is 50% increase in miles and whopping surge in cash surcharges esp ex-AUH from almost nothing to 5x more.

Where is the extra availability .... ? I see no difference before and after 8 July.

mike84k Jul 8, 2015 7:55 pm

was looking at availability in july. nothing on route i was checking has changed. most dates are still blacked out as usual. however increase of 50% guest miles required for seats.

spizzy Jul 9, 2015 12:46 am

Yep still no extra availability for SYD-AUH. Not surprised really.

Yes same as it was before :td:

So I tried Dub to BKK in Business;

Guest Business is 131k each way as expected; however the open seat business saver is 104663 each way or 30% less than the Guest business. Of course the taxes are higher.. :( I assume this is connected to the 30% off selected routes mind you not sure how it makes sense...

then the really confusing part; As I understand it Auh to Sin is one of the 30% off routes in Business for an open seat. When I look at the route for next feb; the Guest seat is 96k kinda as expected however the open seat business saver is 234k.... so then I check the business saver seat ex Dublin to Sydney so including the extra flight and its less at 159k and then this is less than the guest Business seat at 168k; how can flying from further incl as extra flight connecting via AUH be less expensive......

Mind you it benefits me so I really should not say anything :D

Can you please post a screen grab of what you see when you look up DUB-BKK?

The figures you have been quoting for the last while for OpenSeats sound unrealistically low. I can't figure out what you are actually seeing.

Here's what I see, for a one-way in Business.

I presume you are talking about business class, right? Are you mistakenly searching Economy?

So, given that 3 people are each certain that there is no extra availability, how have you ascertained this fact?

If you previously searched a route on a certain date and there was no availability, and there still is no availability on that date and that route afterwards, that does not prove conclusively that there is no extra availability.
