I don't think it's strange. These are very short flights, so they probably figure that passengers can live without eating. Frankly I am surprised that they offer any special meals on such short sectors.

(Plus there's probably limited demand for Kosher flights on GCC routes.)

Does she heat in a kosher oven?

As far as I know many airlines use the same ovens BUT do not heat up Kosher meals with any other meals in the oven at the same time.

Just a gentle warning to stay away from religion and politics. Lets acknowledge the fact that EK chooses not to fly to some parts of the world and that it does not currently offer Kosher meals onboard (via the public drop down menu under Manage Your Booking). Your experiences may have varied in the past where your specific request may have been accommodated.

There are plenty of other avenues online in which you can discuss these issues. FT is however not one of them.

Sorry, it was such a juicy question that I had to laugh. :)

Common sense every one.

Jewish law allows for food to be heated up in any oven (not necessarily a "Kosher" one) provided it's double wrapped. That's why, if you ever look at the main dish of the KSML, it's been wrapped twice. First, it comes in a tin with a sealed lid, and then wrapped again in aluminum foil.

They all use the same ovens (except perhaps LY,) and depending on the amount of KSMLs, some do heat all up at the same time, and others separate. You're more likely to see separation on flights to or from TLV, and perhaps routes popular with Kosher-observers, such as NYC-Florida routes in January.

Dear Flying Frequents,

Are you out of your freaking mind? Do you have any idea about the politic situation between Israel and other Arab countries? Are you in the know that once you have been to Israel or you are an Israel citizen you can forget about getting into any Arab country.

That is the reason why you need more then one passport when traveling into Israel and for having the chance in getting into an Arab country.

What is the next question you are going to ask: "Can you fly Emirates when holding an Israel passport?"

Usually, when I ask people from Israel whether they want to fly with Emirates or Etihad, they they are usually asking me, whether I'm out of my freaking mind and now you are asking for a kosher meal. One thing I can recommend for you my friend: how about you try flying with EL AL?

Thanks,

I can still not believe that this questions was actually being asked in the Emirates Forum,... can you please ask this question again in the EL AL FORUM?

As also: I recall that this menu option was an option on Lufthansa's 747-400 flights from Frankfurt to Tel Aviv, used to take those flights sometimes....

Blog that thing also on LUFTHANSA, but for god sakes not in the EMIRATES AIRLINES FORUM, thanks for your understanding.

Actually, in response to all of this, EK does indeed offer Kosher meals. While (perhaps for obvious reasons, perhaps not,) a KSML cannot be requested online, I personally have found them to be quite accommodating on the phone. They do serve it. Maybe not on all routes, but certainly ex-JFK. And SQUALO, the LY forum would not be the appropriate forum as this question has nothing to do with LY. Perhaps in the "Religious Travelers" forum.

As for your comment that one cannot enter Israel with Arab stamps in his/her passport, or vice versa, there are numerous threads in the "Middle East Forum" about this exact question. A simple search will yield many results showing many people (myself included) who have visited Israel after visiting Arab countries and of visiting Arab countries after visiting Israel.

:p

Without any problems you can get into UAE, Qatar, Jordan, Egypt, Morocco... with Israeli stamp. May be to other counties as well, but for those 5 i know for sure.
KSML never been on drop-down online menu, but always been served by EK on request, even now. Regarding the routine, pls see my earliest post in the same theme.

I dont know why people have to bring in politics.

I asked a simple question: Does emirates serve kosher meals. As I understand the answer is yes and it can only be ordered via the phone. Does someone know what company they use from Dubai? If its Hermolis, then great, but if its some longlife food, then I rather order a fruit platter.

So please just answer my question!

You are correct about ordering the Kosher food. The food is not Hermolis (as of last check,) but provided by Chabad actually. It's not longlife shelf food, and was decent. Not Hermolis, but definitely acceptable food. You can also find out where the KSML ex-DXB comes from now when you call to order it.

I think we've had enough discussion on this. If members require Kosher meals, they simply need to call EK and enquire as to the availability on their sector.
