Maybe the best place to ask this is on the Tripadvisor Dubai forum where you will find more up to date information and reviews.

Malls
Deira City Centre-Located in Deira and very central to Dubai-town. Has all sorts of shops and a Carrefour as well. Ibn Battuta Mall-Largest single-storey mall in the world located on the Abu Dhabi-Dubai highway (Sheikh Zayed Road) near Jebel Ali. Close to up and coming residential areas. Wide array of shops and has an IMAX cinema screen in the 21-screen megaplex. Mall of the Emirates-Located on the Sheikh Zayed Road it is home to Dubai Ski, an indoor skiing facility. Wide array of shops and cinemas and restaurants. Dubai Mall-The latest mall in Dubai, opened in November 2008 in its first phase. Mercato Mall-Located in Jumeira near the beach, the mall is not as big and flashy as others but is nevertheless patronised by resident expats on family afternoon outings. Hopefully this thread will become some sort of sticky, although I doubt the mods'll let us keep it here. |

On the subject of Malls, are there any within walking distance of the Premier Inn at Dubai Airport? If not, apart from taking a taxi, what other public transport is available?

Many thanks for that.
Google Maps shows me that it's a direct train from Terminal 1 to Mall of The Emirates, so have saved it. |

However, you have City Center Deira, Dubai Festival City and City Center Mirdif, all within a 15 minute taxi ride that will cost around 10USD/38AED one-way. None of these are particularly 'landmark' destinations on their own but decent for some high-street shopping. If you want to indulge in luxury shopping, head down to Dubai Mall, which is around double the distance (and taxi fare). Else get dropped off to the DXB Terminal 1 Metro Station and take the train to Dubai Mall/Mall of the Emirates, both of which are connected directly to the Red Line. (35-45minutes one-way, 4USD/15AED "Gold" Class Fare) |
