EK's J prices ex-DXB!!!!!

This is insane. EK has hiked up their J fares to the US (at least) ex-DXB, by at least 20% in the past two months.
I don't think I have ever seen that before anywhere.
Have'nt bothered to check F as yet, but I think it may be the same. Well I guess they have to pay for the A380's somehow! :D

Well, they are dropping down to 2 flights a day shortly, so the number of seats has dropped.

Supply and Demand...

As I said in another thread, the cheapest MAN-DXB economy fare is now over £500, so my Emirates days are numbered.

Cheers,
Rick

Like I have said a thousand times before on FT but no one ever remembers it...

Airlines which are home based are most expensive... eg EK from DXB, SQ from SIN, CX from HKG, TG from BKK etc.

EK will usually have discounted fares from outside Dubai.

That's quite true.

In fact, biz class fares ex-Dubai to New York are a bargain by comparison with what Londoners have to pay out of Heathrow with BA.

I checked with ba.com for travel LHR-JFK in biz class for March 3 and returning March 7. BA's cheapest biz class fare is GBP3,583 which equates to Dhms 25,887.

And consider that the air mileage for Dubai-New York is twice that of London-New York

I definitely agree. Too many cases to quote.

But what has any of that got to do with the OP?

I know it is cheaper to fly ex-DXB to US, rather the other way round.
But the price hike is what I am talking about.
For eg:
Around Dec time, a RT DXB-JFK was around 15,570AED.
Now, the same ticket costs around 18,860 AED.

Now to send my employees in J costs my company more than 17.5%. Thats a dent on our budget.

Well, Torontoflyer, if you actually used YYZ and YUL I think you could do better than EX-DXB. Especially as 2 one way tickets

sadiqhassan Feb 13, 2008 10:49 am

This wouldn't work for business client travel, but ex KHI is always a good option.

Business Class to JFK: AED 12,000 + taxes
First Class to JFK: AED 20,000 + taxes

Good deals also available ex MCT,BAH etc (around AED 13,000 + tax)

Taxes are low since EK already includes the YQ surcharge.

Cheers,

I think at least ex-U.S. in 2007 prices for online bookings included a 10% discount, so J class JFK-DXB-JFK fare was $7200, $6500 net of discount. Prices now are $8000 or so. J class out of IAH is nearly $10,000! That Etihad $4700 J fare out of JFK is looking attractive...

Kagehitokiri Feb 15, 2008 8:09 am

EY J has flatbeds too

considering this thread, its odd the A380 inaugural (DXB-JFK) only cost ~$1400/$4200/$6700

Emirates Vs Etihad????

From anyone who has tried both carriers in business and in First, what is the feedback. I have heard that the Etihad seats in business and first are better but the service with Etihad is not so great

I do see that the fares are more competitive

Piper?

Eventually the piper has to be paid (in other words, you can only lose so much money before you have to start being profitable). :p

I just flew Business with SQ MAN-SIN-MNL and EY MNL-?-MAN.

For me EY was a better experience all around. Entertainment comparable. SERVICE on EY was better. Food was also better. I will be using EY in the future.

I checked out the new T3 lounge in SIN (SQ) not too impressed. EY lounge was better. Lots of staff eager to please. Had to search for SQ staff.

One mans opinion.

I get good deals on Emirates, I buy direct from a consolidator who deals with Emirates mainly. If you want to get fares on Emirates, send me your request via Private Message, I'm sure you will save. From my experience, i have always got a better deal than buying from expedia or lastminute for Emirates flights.
