There are more twists than that. ;) You could buy one way tickets from TIP, however, airlines and TAs are only allowed to sell return tickets with government approvals which are only granted to citizens and legal residents. :td: I am not sure if it is worth the hassle for a one way fare.

In general, SITI transactions can be done if you are not a resident of a country. However, I am not sure if this would still apply for ex Libya tickets

Not sure if this is possible anymore but let's say you booked an ex-TIP fare to BKK using 8U (Afriqiyah Airlines) connecting to CX via FRA and HKG on a paper ticket. If you tore off the coupon and presented CX with the onward tickets would they refuse you?

I don't have experience with CX / 8U but lets just say that "Person X" has done this with other airlines without problems. (Bought a ticket AAA-BBB-CCC-BBB-AAA and tore off the AAA-BBB-AAA coupons - which were on a different airline.)

If CX is strict in Frankfurt, they might deny you boarding. I think they *can* find out whether or not you actually flew the 8U segment but you could always play innocent - "yes, i just came from TIP."

A friend of mine has skipped the first segment of DXB-HKG-LAX-HKG-DXB CX tickets and was caught the second time (he left the DXB-HKG coupon on when checking in at HKG; DOH!) but luckily they let him fly since the HKG-LAX-HKG ticket was cheaper than the DXB-HKG-LAX-HKG-DXB ticket. He only skipped because he couldn't get seats on DXB-HKG so he made his own way there.

Cheers

My understanding was that one could not... anyone know for sure?

I know for sure you can. All these treads about having to be a Libyan citizen/work visa holder I have not found any evidence of this being a requirement. The best evidence to being being what happens in practice too!

TIP-Fares

My last experience has been from 19.Nov.2006.
This time i could buy F-Ticket TIP-LHR-HKG and TIP-LHR-SIN-Perth,
but no Star Alliance.
Has anyone update informations reagarding where to buy F-Tickets in Lybia with StarAlliance carriers?

PETEFLYS Jun 18, 2007 10:52 am

I have first hand experience with a TIP ticket I flew in April 07 so I will pass on my experience here. The ticket was on Emirates stock and one other star alliance carrier RT, and it was paper issued in the USA. I am a US citizen and obtained a entry visa just in case. Here is my story and YMMV.
I arrived in TIP on BA my bag was only tagged to TIP and I needed to collect my luggage and check in with Emmirates. Well trying to clear customs was not going to happen for me I was escorted to 3 stations then to an office. They took my passport and my paper ticket and then escorted me to what I call the holding cell LOL it really is the gateside secured area of the airport. There is a snackbar but without local currency no way to purchase anything, and without my boarding pass i was unable to get into the lounge on three tries. I asked if they would call down to Emirates and no luck. I sat around for 4 hours and then 30 minutes before take off they come upstairs with all the passports and boarding passes. I standed in the long line to get on my plane. I now had to get my luggage I told my problem to the F purser and they went and had someone make sure my bag got loaded but it only got checked to DXB and not BKK my final destination due to checking in the bag late..LOL. The TIP airport is not someplace you want to be stranded and I must say it was not a comfortable experience there.
MY trip was hassle free once I left TIP. Would I go back and do it again, I don't think so,it is a place where you could very easily be in limbo for a long time.

F ticket issue in TIP

My question is if I go to Tripoli personally to buy the F ticket ,do I still need the Lybian residence ID or working permit to get the ticket?
I”ve ever been to Tripoli in the Nov of 2006 to buy the F ticket in the Tripoli BA office for TIP-LHR-SIN-PER-SIN-LHR-TIP with BA/Quantas carrier ,and I did not get any trouble with good bargain F price.
I will go to TIP again in early august this year and would like to buy F-Class ticket
for Star Alliance routing to SYD,MEL or AKL.,i.e. SQ or ANA.I know already that LH don’t offer this fares anymore.
Which airline will issue these tickets for me in Tripoli?
Is it possible to buy the tix in OS or SWISS office? or
Can I also buy these tickets from QatarAirlines office or Emirates and Turkish Airlines? What is the best deal?
Who has really updated news or personell experience on this subject?

And don't you wonder why, when presented with a suggestion like this, the shutters came down on these fares?

Why airlines WANT e-tickets to come on line sooner than later!

But even when one has an e-ticket all the airlines on the itinerary have their own record locator.

Maybe you can chime in how fast the "ecoupon" will show as used?

Axey Nov 29, 2007 12:51 am

Almost immediately. When someone (anywhere) manages to check you in, the coupon changes to CKIN status in the ETR. As soon as the flight is reconciled, the coupon changes to used. With many airlines, this process is almost immediate once the manifest is printed.
