Silver status-match requirements!

I sent a request to Emirates asking to be upgraded to Silver tier, as I already hold a silver tier with another airline. After submitting the required documents I was told that I must book either:

1) Two round-trip economy class (flex or above) ticket within 12 months
2) One round-trip business class ticket within 12 months.

They told me that after completing one of the above requirements my account would be subject to further review prior to upgrading me to silver status. I asked them to upgrade me now so that if I travel in economy I would at least enjoy the silver-tier status. I also told them it would make no sense for me to fly economy with no status while I already have silver tier with another airline. I also told them that world-elite Mastercard holders in Kuwait (I don't hold that card FYI) are automatically upgraded to gold status with Qatar but they simply told me that they "have procedures that needs to be followed."

I understand this but shouldn't Emirates at least upgrade me now to silver as a way to attract my loyalty rather than telling me they would upgrade me after completing one journey? I really like Emirates since during Covid-19 they saved me from a catastrophe while the airline I hold silver tier status with abandoned me and even refused to transfer me to another airline.

Welcome back! I am not sure why the airline would simply gift you Silver status, especially after the record they have on you. If they would gift everyone just Silver, it wouldn't really have any value would it?

I don’t think EK wants your “loyalty” ;)

As you know very well (after all you have an extended and possibly somewhat checkered love / hate relationship with Emirates), you require 25000 tier miles to qualify for silver status. Why having silver status with another (Unspecified) airline would make any difference escapes me completely, but of course there is no rule against asking (begging?) for it.

Thanks for coming back anyway, I personally could do with the entertainment value of your post!

I don't think you have to complete the trips but rather have the booking. At least this is what I did a few years back when I requested a gold match. I had 2 long haul Y flex/flex plus bookings already before making the request but wasn't due to travel for a month or two and got the upgrade from silver to gold.

not sure if hand lotion is on board these days. Hope that helps.

Many airlines only match to 1 level below, if meet flight requirements.
Silver with 1 airline is not always equal silver with another. Really need to look at the tier level 1 - level 2 - level 3

EK have been exceedingly generous with you by offering a very low bar to cross for status. Most people have to earn status by flying, flying, flying & flying.

Is this a joke Emirates? Is this how you treat your loyal frequent flyer passengers? Other passengers get their birthday celebrated in a proper way but for me I only get 1 piece of the cake! I think I will move my money to other airlines, especially when Emirates is not appreciating me as a frequent and loyal passenger.

Bye bye Emirates. I know you will miss my money but you did not compensate me like the R-C so nothing can be done really. Hello Qatar Airways.

That’s why some people want silver status. Because it gives you access to the DXB business class lounge, where they have hand lotion.

Surely this is tongue-in-cheek?

When an airline offers status match, it is simply asking the passenger to transfer his loyalty to the new airline in exchange for some benefits, which is why I asked for silver status (with proof of holding silver status sent as reference.) Why would Emirates not offer me Silver status now so that when I book with them I would already be enjoying the benefits extended to me in exchange for my loyalty? It's a win/win situation for every one (Emirates makes more profits, I enjoy the privileges' extended to me for my business.)

I enjoy my flights with Emirates but there is simply no incentive for me to fly Emirates when I already enjoy business-class treatment at the price of economy class at my current status with the airline I fly. I can simply pay economy class ticket, get business class treatment at airport, upgrade to business class seat at maybe 50% discount after take-off, and just enjoy my flight. Unless I get the silver status prior to my flight there is simply no incentive for me to fly Emirates :(

They clearly mentioned after completing the requirements mentioned above in the first post, they would review my account again (they simply can not guarantee me silver tier.)

Sure. But here is a question for you - why do you need to fly EK if this is the case?

Indeed.

FWIW - each airline deals with status match/challenge differently. All I can say is - you want it? Then you have to play by the rule. A logic isn't required on how airlines do things.

Case in point - AA charges people for status challenge. However, if your status is high enough to be equivalent to EXP, then they give you a trial status instead without costs.

Read the last sentence in my first post.

It is better for me to maintain my silver status, upgrade to business class seat after take-off at cheap price, then take another airline upon disembarkation for my final destination than to fly with Emirates. If Emirates is not interested in my business then it's their call and I respect that. As I previously mentioned, it's either a win/win or lose/lose situation. Let's hope they reconsider their status match requirements.
