Poor First Class Experience With Emirates
 
I booked a ticket to Singapore in first class (round trip.) I wanted to change the travel dates online but the system insisted that I visit the nearest Emirates office. In addition to paying the full price of first class ticket I had to incur additional charges such as parking fees (in Kuwait) and taxi fees (visit the office in Singapore) just to change my travel dates. To add insult to injury the B777-300ER to Singapore had the old ICE (not touch-screen.) On the way back to Dubai in first class I asked for a hot chocolate but it took them some time to prepare it. They blamed the delay on the malfunctioning machine. Furthermore, I had to wait over 20 minutes just to order breakfast. When I asked the cause of the delay they mentioned that it takes time to heat the meal! When I ran back to the galley to ask for sugar for my second hot chocolate I found 5 or 6 cabin crews having a meal and chatting with each other rather than looking after first class passengers.

As a paying first class passenger this is definitely not what I expected from a world class airline. Oh and don't tell me to fly with Qatar Airways since as a J passenger I also couldn't make changes to my reservations online......

I’d say you should only fly private.

Thanks for reminding us you fly first class. It's very important to us that we know this, so much so that you need to boldface it.

Tell me, do you have such frustrating times in hotels, or is only when you fly first class?

It really annoys me, too, that EK don't have any call centres that one can speak to when one has to amend a reservation. And they don't even pay for my taxis to travel around town, I'm probably going to switch to QR and never fly EK again

‘Contact your local Emirates Office’ advice means call them. I have no idea how you could do the logic that you need to turn up in person.

And about the service let downs. It happens, but the points you raise are quite incidental. EY residence might be more your style, although ovens and taps break on those planes too.

I had to visit the EK office since I had to pay some fees to change my ticket. EK had no right to prevent me from changing my ticket online, especially when I'm flying in first class.

When first class is empty and it takes over 20 minutes (it took around 25 minutes) to prepare my breakfast that is utterly unacceptable. If I was sitting in an empty restaurant and the food took that much time to arrive I would cancel the order and look for another restaurant. EK first class left a bitter taste in my mouth.

However minor the op’s complaints might appear to others (& seemingly bizarre previous posts may be ;)) theses issues clearly upset him. I think he could well have room for dissatisfaction here :eek: EK’s IT should be effective in handling rebooking. Inconsistency of hard product is frustrating. Service should be flawless in F.

I pray to god that there was hand lotion freely available.

And why couldn't you pay over the phone? What exactly happened when trying to change your ticket online? Where and how did you purchase the ticket originally? And how come you needed to change it twice, in Kuwait and again in SIN?

Class of service is irrelevant in terms of IT, think net neutrality.

Personally, I always take the attitude that sometimes things don't go right and it's important to go with the flow. Things don't always go to plan, and all of this is definitely a first world problem.

Self importance can be a considerable block to appreciating what we already have. I understand that the OP was disappointed, but it should be put into context. I'm sure the ride was comfortable, the 23" screen was still visible, and the OP did not die of starvation during the flight.

By all means complain through the appropriate channels if you wish, but remember you're already very privileged, and waiting 20 minutes for service in first class is a far cry from not being able to afford eating. Most of the world lives that way.

Using that logic nobody should complain about anything travel related in an online forum. I mean compared to starving, lost luggage, lack of upgrades, cancelled flights, etc are minor inconveniences, right?

I purchased my ticket online. When I tried to change my ticket online it kept insisting that I visit the nearest EK office since it wont let me do it online. I didn't pay over the phone since I refuse to give my credit card details over the phone.

Not being funny but assuming you're a 'western expat' in Kuwait, a taxi is hardly going to cost a fortune, I can say that after living in Saudi and visiting Kuwait, it is most definitely not going to be anything like UK or USA etc. And with Singapore having a well developed public transport network, is it *really* necessary to take a taxi there?

This thread REEKS of self-entitlement and overdemanding demeanor. It's absolutely sensational that such small things cause such outrage in people, what is this world coming to?

Online via the website? Had you requested any special services, made a miles upgrade or any other changes previously? If you refuse to give you credit card over the phone then there's really not much to say...

EK serves water during meals usually from a large bottle of Al Ain or Evian, as mentioned the minibar also contains bottled water.

Either way, you've clearly stated before that you dislike EK, would never fly them again and were taking your business to QR. You're now reiterating the fact you prefer QR, so why exactly are you starting this thread, or flying EK at all? "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice..."

If you are sitting in a good restaurant, the food can take a lot to be prepared because they will do it from fresh materials, and will be cook for you. If you go to a restaurant and your food is served in 5 min, you can be sure is not a good restaurant.

0.33L of Evian water for a 7+ hours flight is not enough. Either they stock larger bottles of water, serve Evian water as standards (similar to QR flights,) of reduce their fares.

When I pay a premium to fly first class, then I expect a first class/VIP treatment. Telling me to visit the nearest EK office to change my flight (making me feel like I booked via a cheap airline with poor IT) for the price I paid is utterly unacceptable. I will be posting a negative first class review on Skytrax.

I have booked a full-revenue first class (no cash/mile upgrades) ticket out of my own money, and for the price I paid I expected to be treated like celebrities. I could have paid half the price and flown with QR business and had better service than Emirates first class!

Oh and the reason I flown EK first (as opposed to QR J) was the private suite with 3 windows all for myself in addition to the fantastic ICE system. I get bored on QR flights but on EK overall I find my experience enjoyable (assuming I get what I paid for.)

Oh and did I mention that in Singapore J and F passengers get the same chauffeur-drive car? I was disappointed to see an Mercedes E-class (as opposed to an S-class) as a first class passenger driving me to the hotel.

To conclude, overall I enjoy my flights with EK, but I don't feel like I'm getting what I paid for (based on the price they charge for first class.)

Again, you were not told to *visit* the nearest EK office. You were told to *contact* the nearest EK office. To any normal thinking person, this would mean you phone them and make your changes / payments over the phone. For some reason, you decided to visit the nearest EK office and then whinge about parking fees.

Again, I will not give my CC details over the phone. How can I pay over the phone if I don't give them my CC details?

They had no right to treat me like this in the first place. Oh well, they lost me as a first class passengers, there are plenty of other airlines out there with better service and cheaper fares ;)

What's the relative cost of a parking ticket compared to a first class fare? About 1/4000?
Plus if you choose not to use the convenience of paying over the phone, you have to accept the consequent costs derived from that! 🙄

Three options:

1) Don't fly premium
2) Choose a different airline
3) Get over yourself and consider yourself lucky that you can afford to fly in premium cabins unlike the vast majority of people and be grateful this first world only problem seems to be a major worry for yourself which, for others, would be the total opposite.

Or a combination of the above.

Not sure what 'regular' water actually is. However, I have recently only ever been offered Voss or Perrier in F.

That is your personal choice. You really can't expect a company to pay for a taxi due to your refusal to use a phone and provide credit card over it.
