Shanghai mansion in Chinatown is also good if you want to be in the thick of the action, it's also within walking distance to emerald Buddha etc. Although Chinatown traffic can be problematic.

Just wanted to say we are booked!! 69 days and counting...

All the flights we wanted and have booked the seats in the middle next to each other on all flights 16EF 9EF 14EF 9EF

Thank you all so much for all your help. Just need to sort out the hotels now!!

Has anyone flown Bankgok to Singapore with Tiger Air, Jet Star (the cheapest quote) Scoot or Air Asia? we`d be grateful for any opinions.

DYKWIA May 23, 2017 1:39 pm

I've only done Air Asia, and they were very good.

Not this route but flown Air Asia and Tiger Air and they're perfectly fine. Flown Air Asia out of DMK, KBV, HYD and KUL, and Tiger out of HYD, SIN and MNL and never had an issue with any of these flights other than hangover which was my own fault

Air Asia is a cheap option bouncing around SE Asia.

Have used them in and out of Singapore without a problem. It's convenient if you are arriving/departing SIN via Emirates, in that Air Asia and Emirates are in the same terminal.

Remember, no codeshare though, so you have to go through immigration, pick up your bags, and go back to departures to check into your next flight.

Thai Lion Air flies Bangkok (DMK) to SIN.
They are my preferred Thailand airline except when I need to connect at BKK Suvarnabhumi (impossible to pronounce) airport, where my only choice to/from UTH is Thai Smile.

I avoid booking with Air Asia, fed up with all the add ons even when I don't need them. Seems I will need a one day trip UTH-BKK soon, Thai Lion Air will come cheaper anyway....

Nok Air DMK to SIN would be my second choice.

d1191 May 24, 2017 12:58 am

Once again thank you all so much, will get some prices from them all.

tartempion, we have not hears of Thai Lion Air so will put that on the list together with Nok air.

Hi Jodieh12, thanks again for the great advice.

We were looking at hotels last night in Singapore (scary prices) do didn`t book the flights..think I just had a panic attack!! lol but its on our to do list for later.

We were thinking and hoping for the 2 middle seats that are together, but that depends if there are any available (according to Expedia when we had a peek there were, but we will not be booking thru them) Window seats would also suit us fine. As we would have 4 flights might try both

A bit off topic where do you stay in Bangkok? (will be there for 7 days so we can get a good feel of the city without being rushed, then doing 7 days in Singapore)

Many thanks

I'm a bit of a cheapskate when it comes to hotels so am staying at the IBIS bangkok riverside which is really cheap but I like IBIS you know what you're going to get, a bit like travelodge in the UK.

In Singapore we stay at the Novotel Clarke Quay. Do you really need a week in Singapore, we've only ever done 3 days and feel thats enough. Have you considered Kuala Lumpur, just an hour away from Singapore, cheap flights, great shopping and fantastic food, hotels are half the price?

xx

The Pen and MO BKK are both excellent. I'm sure you will find service all round in most BKK hotels to be outstanding. I have heard nothing but great things too about the Siam, however it is further away from the hustle and bustle and may not be ideal if it is your first time visiting BKK.

Would second this, one week seems like a lot in Singapore, KL has some great hotels for excellent rates (St. Regis!) and there is lots to do and great food too.

Thank you all, looks like we have got lots of reading to do

Hotel Bangkok and more

Just to add my two penny worth. We have stayed in Bangkok on a number of occasions staying in different areas. Only a personal opinion but we would not stay by the river again. In most of the river side hotels you have to get a river ferry to the mrt and there is very little to see/do around the hotels. Getting taxis back at night can also be a problem. Our favourite is the Sukamvit road area. Some nice hotels, walking distance to the MRT (nana) lots of restaurants and bars. Don't know how much you want to spend but the Landmark is a great hotel and ticks all the boxes. Agree Clarke Quay is a nice area in Singapore but also agree a week is possibly a bit too long. You could do a few days in Singapore and move to KL. An extra flight but given how expensive Singapore is, then it would probably not cost you any more and would certainly give you a greater experience. By the way if you are on the afternoon flight be sure you give yourself plenty of time in the Man lounge. Lunch is excellent with great choices and one of the best lounges we have visited. Unfortunately I can't say the same about the B concourse in Dubai which is dissapoining, but Bangkok is good.

d1191 May 27, 2017 12:49 am

Thank you Ronel, my brain is dead looking at hotels ...but the Landmark is one that we are liking (I received a newsletter from them the other day) Also looking at the Okura Prestige and Grand Hyatt Erawan. Not seen any brilliant offers yet though for booking any hotels. We do prefer to book directly through the hotel if possible.

On the suggestion of Jodieh12 I have been looking at KL for a few days (we had not considered here) Would have to do Bangkok, KL and Singapore as our flights in and back home are already booked. Would you recommend 2 or 3 days?

Yes we are on the afternoon flight from Manchester, can`t wait! We don`t have a load of time at Dubai 3 and a bit hours, just wanted to experience it (most probably flying west again next year)

Thank you again everyone for all your great advice its really appreciated, please keep it coming we are very grateful.

Hi OP d1191,

Been reading the good advice given by many. My tuppence worth:-

Go for the front cabin on the 380s. More of a private feeling and you get served first. Ask for a mattress bed down as soon as convenient. Amenity kits are lovely and you will get them on the red eye hops. You could ask for one male and one female to see the differences.

I find ME airlines take about 2.5 hrs before the meal service. The Emirates lounge offerings are lovely except perhaps the Dubai one. I usually gourmandise in the European and Asian ones before boarding and snack on a chosen menu offering with a nice French red. A hint, use the hot towel to give a good rub down to the arm rests and table trays, before they collect. My travel kit has a bottle of antibacterial lotion and my partner does the wiping.

Enjoy the Champagne and cocktails. Tried them all. Their Kir Royals and Mojitos stand out. You'll have plenty of bar time on the 380s. Don't overdo. Have seen loads who plonk out and are dishevelled with no time to brush up before landing.

Emirates crews have Polaroids on board for picture taking. It's their “Make moments to remember” offering. The pics are enclosed in a post card type folder. I have many, especially serving behind the bar and in the gantries. Ask for the Menus and a condiment set for a memory keepsake.

If you need a rest in Dubai there are lounge beds, near the male showers IIRC. They supply blankets. Watch the monitors for gate and time changes. There are no public announcements. Ask the crew before landing for your onward flight time and departure gate. Saves you a bit of time, as there can be changes to the onward boarding passes issued at source. Remember you have to go through security before boarding at Dubai.

Tell the crew you are first time BC passengers. They want you to come back!! Consider joining their Emirates Skywards programme. …...Enjoy...

As hinted, a Singapore week is perhaps too long. Singapore is the most expensive place in Asia after Japan. Find out about an Air Asia inclusive hotel package to KL (Kuala Lumpur) if it's not to late. Your Singapore hotel can store your main luggage and keep your room. I'd say three days in KL max.

d1191 May 30, 2017 7:21 am

Hi Ooi, thank you so much for the amazing information. Very kind of you to give us so much detail.

We have not booked any internal flights yet. At the moment we land in Bangkok and then leave from Singapore. We are thinking 6 days in Bangkok, 2 full days in KL and 5 and a bit days in Singapore. How does this sound? Will look at Air Asia inclusive hotel package thank you, as we will need a flight Bangkok to KL hotel there and then flight KL to Singapore.
