Thank you both.

skywardjunter its the 777 I was meaning, said smaller as don`t think they have the upstairs and had assumed it was a smaller plane. We just like the sound of the 380`s.

Sorry, another queston.
I know the checked baggage allowance for Business is 40kg each and no way do we have that many clothes!!! but does this mean you can each have up to 2 suitcases. Was just thinking of packing a holdall just in case.

d1191 May 22, 2017 5:45 am

Brilliant, m3red, getting excited now but will not book until I later as we double check everything and then check it again before pressing any buttons.

We are thinking of EK18 then EK376 going out (3hr 25 layover) and coming home EK355 and then EK21 (2hr layover). Do these flights sound ok, there is so much choice. Flying from Manchester on a Monday and leaving Singapore on a Thursday.

Yes the 777 is of course smaller, but still seats almost 400 pax, vs up to 615 in the 380 (2-class config).

As for luggage, ex UK there is no limit as to number of bags, you could have 5 suitcases each, as long as the total weight of all of them doesn't exceed your allowance. From some stations, such as all of Africa and AFAIK all of North America you are restricted to 2 bags of up to 23kg each (in Y, in J I think its 2x 32kg).

EK18 is a party bus, you'll enjoy the bar if you like a drink :D

d1191 May 22, 2017 5:52 am

I think we will be so excited that any drinks would go to our heads! but of course would be rude to refuse.

Daughter is 20 is she able to have a drink on the plane? I am sure I read somewhere that is is ok on the plane but she can`t in Dubai.

Thank you for the info on the cases.

Pretty sure they'll serve her on the plane if she's >18, virtually every airline in the world serves booze to over 18s

Thank you.

Wow, thank you so much. Think we need to get it sorted when my daughter comes in from work as suppose the prices can only increase the longer we leave it. I like the idea of break it down into each sector M3red and Jodieh12.

For the past few years we have traveled US with United and just the thought of getting on a plane and someone reclining into my lap as they did last year is a scary thought with 4 long flights.

We can choose to have a 2+hour or 3+hour change at Dubai on the way out, is it worth the longer one to experience the Business Lounge? might be the only time we get to do this, we are thinking of the 2pm flight from Manchester. We are also undecided whether to spend a day in Dubai!! travelling in August and maybe not the best time to be rushing about. We do want to see it but we don`t if that makes sense? (we are having a week in Bangkok and week in Singapore).

All the 4 flights seem to be on 380`s, if the flights were not full would Emirates put on smaller planes or do they just fly what you book? Would be gutted if they did swap, but need to be prepared just in case.

Thanks again, your advice and help is really appreciated.

I'd go for the 3 hours layover. If you're going August you should definitley get A380. I'm doing man-bkk in June and am on the last 777 of the month, they downgraded the morning flight EK22 to a 777 for May and June.

Next decision for you is seats, I love 18 & 20 K when travelling with daughter and 20 E&F when travelling with hubby. Others will be along with their faves soon I guess.

Safe travels xx

Hi Jodieh12, thanks again for the great advice.

We were looking at hotels last night in Singapore (scary prices) do didn`t book the flights..think I just had a panic attack!! lol but its on our to do list for later.

We were thinking and hoping for the 2 middle seats that are together, but that depends if there are any available (according to Expedia when we had a peek there were, but we will not be booking thru them) Window seats would also suit us fine. As we would have 4 flights might try both

A bit off topic where do you stay in Bangkok? (will be there for 7 days so we can get a good feel of the city without being rushed, then doing 7 days in Singapore)

Many thanks

The Eastin grand hotel sathorn is a good hotel very well priced and connected to public transport, the club lounge is also nice. Also really enjoy the club room in the Banyan Tree.
Le meridien Bangkok is also in a good location just near pat pong night market.

The royal Orchid Sheraton on the river is quite nice

Wow, such speedy replies. Thank you.

We looked at the Eastin Grand a little while ago and the reviews seem to be consistently very good. I read that there is nothing around it but as its got a rail link does that really matter? Will have a look at the others, thanks for the suggestions.

It really depends what you want to be doing, getting around BKK by road can be torturous, the MRT is the best way to get around relatively quickly, but also just staying near the places you'd like to visit is a good start.

d1191 May 23, 2017 8:05 am

Thanks, I have been reading up a lot and and agree the MRT or taxi (if no MRT) is the best way to get around.

Our plans are to visit the Grand Palace and Wats using the river ferry, go to the Ancient City, Chinatown and Kao San Road (for a little look) Chatuchak weekend Market, shopping etc I suppose all the touristy things which I appreciate are not all in one area.
