Equipment Swap

I have specifically gone out of my way to go via JNB to fly to HKG on the A380 , instead of going from my home town of CPT. Sadly the A380 has been switched to a 777 on the JNB-DXB segment , any chance of EK changing my flight to depart from CPT instead for free/ waive fee ? ( I know this is very 1st world issue)

I am platinum if that helps , will call them later , but wanna get your guys expertise first ....

Thanks in advance :D

50:50 I'd reckon. CPT/JNB switches are quite easy to do generally, there may be a fare difference, but you could get lucky in having the change fee waived

Thanks , looking at the cost for the fare difference it would be cheaper to buy a new ticket ! Will update you on how it goes ...

It's interesting that they're switching the A380, how often does this happen, any idea? I've been toying with the idea of doing the same thing, flying domestic to JNB to take the A380 onwards

That is what I am doing in June , flight was changed today when checking MMB as I had a look and noticed my seat had changed , no email or phone call. Looks like they have full out stopped the A380 service !

again! That's the 2nd time they launched and then discontinued it.... shame

Yes indeed , pretty poor PR for them seeing how much adverts I have seen around the place in South Africa ( TV, radio , newspapers , billboard ) about the new A380 service !

Such a pain. Wonder what the problem is this time. It's a shame because I didn't fancy arriving into JNB on an A380 so the earlier EK767 was perfect and then the afternoon EK761 with a shower before landing in DXB for business. I too didn't get any notification.

Did this sector twice 2 & 3 weeks ago and it was pretty empty compared to what it is normally like on that flight. Maybe not enough punters to fill that A380?

Highly annoying thou , especially when you go out of your way for the superior J product on the A380 , who knows maybe we might see the updated 777 J product on my flight ! I think they aren't selling enough seats in all classes , plus 777 can handle more cargo.

Just got of the phone with EK , wanted something ridiculous for the fare difference ! I think i would rather keep my R69 564 then spend it for a different flight

waived change fee though?

EK fares ex SA have gone up ridiculously in the past 7 days, I've seen 50% increases in Y on my typical route for several months I've been monitoring

So I'm booked on the A380 next week Saturday and returning on the 23rd. Still listing as the A380 for me, so must only be discontinuing the service later this month?

This post gave me a heart attack as I'm specifically flying up to Joburg to fly on the A380, instead of the angled lie-flats out of Cape Town on the 777!

I've seen the A380 appear for the next month or two so don't think it's an immediate swap

I would assume so , i didn't ask as there was no way i was paying that much just to depart from CPT. My flight in June went from empty to oversold during the change , so a op-up from J-F is on the cards seeing that i am on a flex plus ticket and platinum ! As others have said i think it is only coming into effect during the winter months , i see all mention of the addition of the A380 to JNB has been removed from the EK website ! RichardAtCT i am doing the same , well enjoy the extremely light J on the A380... :D
