Preselected Seats?

Hi All,

Was wondering if anyone had any background on how preselected seats worked? I had a saver ticket and my TA back in December advised he had put a note and sent a email for them to select a window seat from a list I had provided.

Anyway EK CS advised they could not do anything in December and I was to select this week when the boarding opened on Tuesday. Anyway I logged in to Skywards as I was looking at a few other flights for the winter and went to have a look if my seats were still there. To my supprise I had seats already selected on the outward to DXB leg which is a busy service. They have selected one of the ones I wanted from the list I provided to the TA in december.

Anyway its always appreciated but I wanted to try understand what caused this to happen and if anyone had any experiance with? If I try change it says "Any changes made will remove the seat options we preselected for you."

They selected you seats before the pay for selection came in.
if you are trying to change your seats prior to check in my guess is you will be charged to change them.
I cod be wrong of course

The requirement to pay only applied to reservations made from the announced date (3rd Oct) onwards.

The tickets were booked mid october so the charge was supposed to apply. Yesterday it said nothing but the seat numbers. Today the next leg out of DXB has been selecred and it says complimentary underneath.

You are within the 48 hour window for free seat selection now, and it appears EK have selected for you. You should be able to change if you want at no cost.

The checkin process does not open till tomorrow as flight out is Thursday and Friday is the next leg it auto allocated.

Anyway I rang to move the next leg and was told I would be charged. I advised I didnt want the seats and wanted the other they changed after putting on hold. Surprisingly the other legs she allowed me to select even though it had not selected as of yet

Maybe it's a mixed fare booking with some legs as Flex?

Sorry, I read the Tuesday in the OP as being the date of flying - I see now it's when check in opens.
