Menu in J- light bites

First timer on EK - flying J soon. Looking at the menu from the US to Dubai there is a lunch, "Light bites" and breakfast.

1.Are "light bites" served at a certain time or is this something you can order at anytime during mid flight?

2. How does the light bites menu differ from options available at the inflight bar?

They are served at set times (EK does not have dine on demand), and the servings are bigger.

Light bites, as the name suggests, are a selection of hot or cold snacks which can be ordered at any time during the flight between the main meal services which take place at the beginning and end of the flight.

The food available in the lounge is more finger food type such as a sandwich, pastry, fruit skewer etc.

And there is a menu as well at the bar for some other hot snacks that is not that well known about.

I love the smoothies available to order at the A380 J bar.

One of my favourite items on the light bites menu is clam chowder.

Smoothies, Are they new? Never noticed them on offer before.

I have noticed the hot snack menu at the bar, do you have to specifically ask for the items to be heated for you? Silly me last time presumed, that they had been sitting out on offer and I had just missed them.

Yes, you do, it takes about 10-15 minutes. The NZ Lamb Pie was excellent with the 2007 Langoa Barton.

Have a look at the menu @ the A380 J bar.

Where can we find the menu for the J bar?

So one answer was that light bites menu is set meanwhile more replies said I can order anytime between lunch and breakfast (the 2 set meals)?

It's on the counter by the massive TV and on the bar itself.

Light bites menu is a set menu ( not dine on demand). AFAIK you cannot order when you want it and its served just like how they serve other meals.

The bar menu is at the bar as ET mentioned. Some hot food/cold food like macaroons/canapés/mixed nuts etc.

There is also stuff that you can ask for (I sometimes ask for potato crisps/chips if they have any). Some of the bar food is stocked in a mini galley in the bar and other food is from the main galley.

I've never tried to order food from the bar menu and asked to be served at my seat.I usually eat at the bar itself If I'm hungry.

Thats what I thought as well, at least when I have experienced it, hence my original response. Can anyone else confirm what Descending posted, i.e., that it should be on demand?

I have actually ordered the warm snacks (hardly anyone seems to know about them, and I have never experienced a crew that pro-actively promotes them) to my seat when I have skipped meal service, but it took ages to be prepared, and not always the most appetizing. Since then I just grab one of the mini sandwiches at the bar instead.

Can't confirm it. Most recently on JFK-DXB in J, tried order a light bite with 4 hours left in the flight and was told that service was over and to wait for the second meal. Was offered some potato chips to snack on in the meantime.

I would take what Descending says as gospel :D

If some FA's are not allowing it, it's probably laziness.
