Speculation on new fees
In a gulf news article Tim Clark talks about introducing new fees.
What do you think those will be? Credit card fee? Check in fee? Alcohol on board ? Movies on demand ? So many possibilities ! ;) Seriously this airline is losing ground... "Emirates, the world’s largest airline by international passengers, introduced a new seating charge on October 3 where passengers now have to pay [around Dh50 per seat] if they want to pre-select their seats. The airline is looking at introducing other new charges, Clark said without providing specific details." http://m.gulfnews.com/business/aviation/africa-s-economic-woes-weigh-on-emirates-network-tim-clark-1.1914526 |
Additional baggage allowance. 1x 23kg free, additional baggage purchased during ticket purchase or check-in online.
CC fee already exists in some markets. I don't see them charging for onboard services like alcohol or IFE, however. Feels a little shortsighted to me, like a short-term tactic to counter lower loads, rather than a viable long-term strategy. |
EK is massively undercutting prices from India to UK. Found some saver Y tickets return (India to UK) for around 35000 INR (around $525) for November.
I have not seen these prices on EK for nearly a decade. |
Just as long as they don't go all BA on us. But agreed, Emirates can be very good value for money on the saver fares, given the level of service on offer.

Get ready for filthy cabins :) |
Unfortunately the prices in Y between Australia and the UK have jumped up greatly. I'm looking at somewhere around A$2700 return in may, that is US$2k. Or £5,000,000.

I mean on some sectors e.g. Muscat or Doha there is no point in a meal but that could be simply scrapped as cost cutting. Maybe they could get rid of the flower from the F class suite like BA did from the lav :D |
Depressing!

I think DCC (distribution cost charge) could come.. TC always hating against GDS'
|
CC fee already there for me (ex UK).
20kg luggage limit already there (Special tickets ex UK) We even have a weekend supplement from the UK. However, ticket prices are good with plenty competition, and I'm not even seeing ex-EU fares that are worth it just now. |
If they start charging for alcohol I will be changing airlines
