Your are right of course. Must be tricky bumping f pax though, regardless of class or price; it's not like (more) champagne in the lounge is much of a sweetner.

They don't bump f pax.

I'm guessing they opted up j to f and y to j and found you a y seat.

Unless you're on F STF travel :D I did once see a Captain in Y looking very confused as to what to do (ex-LGW)!

In this case, likely a full F cabin with revenue pax (some from J) as you say though - or that staff member who didn't get on board because of a last minute miles pax :D

:D

But FABS is pretty useless if you have some time in advance to book - that's why it's all about being friends with your local ground staff: the reservation system has loads and forecasts on any flight!

Long-term I prefer to book based on the times that suit my schedule, it's the day or two before the flight that I'm itching to find out what my chances for an op-up are that I try get some FABS info. If I know the flight is overbooked I get amped up and if I know it isn't I don't need to get all worked up about it.

I meant paid or mileage f tickets won't get bumped - stf travel is different clearly.

Wouldn't it have just been easier to give me the F seat as booked? I am pretty sure that all F pax checked in.

Staff member on standby was looking a bit worried - but there did seem to be one seat for her - I just didn't have any more time to wait to find out - i was running to gate as it was!

The next flight was only a couple of hours away - and my layover in DXB was 7 hours, but gate staff told me i had no chance of getting on late flight as i wasn't (even) waitlisted. Seems odd - i would have been quite happy to wait a couple of hours in the lounge and then travel in F as planned. All while allowing staff member to get preferred flight!
