Staff travel

Hi
Does anyone know what benefits are given to Australian based part time lounge agents hired by emirates are, specifically staff travel?

Shouldn't you be consulting with your boss/contract about this?

Unless you're directly hired by EK I doubt there is any.

Are you an Emirates staff or outsourced and any reason you can't refer to your employment contract etc or with HR?

I am about to commence a medical and yes it would be hired directly with ek through global opportunities

Im asking if anyone knows what the staff travel is because I on the job add it said staff travel benefits and was unable to ask during the interview and currently deciding weather to take this opportunity over another job offer

I was hoping to find out without asking directly for the time being it would be a part time lounge agent hired directly by ek

From speaking to a friend who recently left EK, he greatly miss the perks he used to get (he was based in Oz) with EK. Also, in the industry they are considered generous with their free flights for staff.

Also unlimited standby fares (£75 + tax) from UK - biggest problem being that EK are so popular that flights can run at 100% from LHR that you can struggle to rely on flights. I was chatting to staff on a a recent (well, 6 months ago) Wednesday EK flight from Heathrow I know there were about 20+ EK staff on stand-by - none of which ended up flying that day. It was what I would consider a quiet day in a quiet time of year (was first couple of days in December).

I should just add this related to certain staff from a certain country in the past - things like staff travel do change all the time, and are often the first thing cut back at times of recession. However, the great benefit of EK is the lack of fuel surcharges / other charges that airlines ply on top of their base fare. You have to pay taxes on most forms of staff travel, but for airlines like BA there is minimal difference between staff fares and public fares often due to the high taxes. This is not the case with (transparent) Emirates.

Well first of all congrats on the appointment.

Second, it is difficult to answer your question without knowing your grade/title etc but in general all EK staff are entitled to unlimited travel for themselves and immediate family members (spouse + children). The benefits extend outwards to other family etc but frequency reduces (again depending on grade). At your level you would probably only get Y travel.

You have two ticketing options ID90 and ID50, the number indicating the discount level over the regular fare (but based on what I've seen, its more like ID99 !) This difference between the two is that the ID90 is standby and the ID50 is a firm ticket

My wife used to work part time for EK in DXB - No travel benefits.

Hello, may I ask, if smb know the approximate prices for ID50 ticket EK, for example DBX-Middle Europe (Vienna, Prague, Munchen, Frankfurt...)?

Thanks a lot. :)

Welcome to FT.

No idea about that but it's DXB NOT DBX.

Don't know about EY, but for EK its 90% discount and you go standby or 50% and you are guaranteed a seat (well almost anyway). Apparently if you are a low grade staff booked on the 50% there is a chance they could bump you for revenue.

And AFAIK this extends to all first blood family members and their respective spouses/children but no to friends.

And no lounge access (which seems a bit mean to me).

As the name suggests, an ID50 ticket is 50% of the full unrestricted fare.

Ok, so no limit on how many people, but just on the number of flights a year to prevent people from selling the benefit I presume.

And are the ID90 tickets confirmed tickets or standby tickets? I was under the impression the deeply discounted ones are standby whereas confirmed reservations require a regular commercial (full price) ticket.

My bro is an EY 77 captain and he gets 20 tickets to give to anyone he chooses, so called 'buddy tickets'. He has a list of 10 names he needs to complete for the people he wants to give tickets to. He is allowed to edit this list at any time. As a captain, his tickets are entitled to First class, as a first officer only Business class.

Cabin crew get 10 tickets, but they can only edit their list twice a year. This was done to stop people from selling tickets. As far as I know, cabin crew only get Y tickets to hand out as part of buddy tickets.

Seperate to this, spouse, kids and parents get unlimited tickets. Not sure this applies to cabin crew.

ID90 is load based. If there is a seat, you MAY get it. There was one time myself and another 5 or so ID90 ticket holders were offloaded at the gate even though there were seats due to load restrictions, i.e plane was too heavy.

Also ID50 doesn't mean you are guaranteed a seat. You can be offloaded if the flight is overbooked. I was always under the impression you were guaranteed a seat but I've been told people have been offloaded.

Whenever I fly on staff tickets I check the loads right up to leaving to the airport in order to minimise the chance of being offloaded.

No perks, so no lounge or chauffeur which is to be expected.

Staff Tickets/Lounge Access

My wife and I are longstanding and current Skywards Gold members and we also have the bonus of access to staff tickets. On the occasions we have used staff tickets, we have always been granted access to EK lounges in DXB and various other parts of the world (not to mention the occasional upgrade).

Last week my wife was flying MEL-KUL on a confirmed staff ticket and had a bit of a battle gaining access to the lounge. Ultimately, the receptionist only allowed her in as a 'special favour' because she 'did not want to make a fuss'.

Does anyone know if there's been a change of policy on this? Thanks in anticipation of your comments.

It's not allowed. It's for full paying customers or more senior staff within the ek group.

I know someone who was a plat on an id90 or 50 not allowed into the lounge.
