Be happy if your "sponsor" gets no warning. staff tickets are for a reason cheaper and don't get points :-)

Skywards status has no relevance when it comes to ID tickets. |
I suggest that your spouse reads the official rules of the airline staff travel, available in large poster format on the second floor of the Emirates Headquarters, when walking from parking 2A. There are further details on lounge access, Skywards privileges, dress-code, behavior ethics and other formalities when travelling on staff tickets.
HR can also send them over e-mail. |

Very poor form - and indeed unprofessional - on the part of the OP + wife to even attempt to engage in "a battle" with the lounge receptionist who was acting properly in refusing entry.
I would like to think that the vast majority of staff (in contrast) fully understand the logic behind these rules and conduct themselves appropriately when using rebated travel benefits. Plus, it's really not difficult to see that such costly lounge facilities could never have been created in the first place on the back of revenue from tickets issued at staff rates. |

My wife and I are longstanding and current Skywards Gold members and we also have the bonus of access to staff tickets. On the occasions we have used staff tickets, we have always been granted access to EK lounges in DXB and various other parts of the world (not to mention the occasional upgrade).
Last week my wife was flying MEL-KUL on a confirmed staff ticket and had a bit of a battle gaining access to the lounge. Ultimately, the receptionist only allowed her in as a 'special favour' because she 'did not want to make a fuss'. Does anyone know if there's been a change of policy on this? Thanks in anticipation of your comments.

Staff Tickets/Lounge Access
There seems to be something of a misunderstanding here.
We have been Gold members continuously for the last nine years and have also been travelling on staff tickets for the last four years. With the latter, we have never had a hint of a problem with EK lounge access at locations in Australia, the USA, Europe, Africa and of course, DXB. It is strange that we have somehow consistently inadvertently breached what some members have indicated is an absolute and well-known condition of staff travel. I overstated the situation regarding last week's experience. I should have said something like 'my wife was surprised that her access to the lounge was questioned', rather than 'my wife battled'. We have the greatest respect for all EK staff so we're hardly likely to knowingly make life difficult for them. Thank you for taking the time to respond to my query. |
Wow! I can only echo the comments which have already been made about foolish attempt to gain access to a premium lounge when travelling on a NON-REVENUE ticket. Having a Skywards loyalty card has no value when travelling on a ticket with no value therefore no benefits can be expected.
The kind person who allows you to access such tickets risks disciplinary action such as loss of travel benefits or even termination for such an act if reported. If you want to be kept as a friend, I wouldn't let them know of your wifes behaviour. |

Just curious, but did you also try to claim Skywards miles for your flights? Or insert your Skywards status into the PNR at OLCI? If not, why not? If you say that well, staff tickets aren't eligible for Skywards accrual, wouldn't the same logic apply to the lounge access? |
I find it appalling that after four years of being an Emirates employee and using staff travel benefits, your spouse has still not bothered to familiarise herself with basic standard operating policies of the airline. This is basic unprofessionalism and disrespect to the employer in my eyes.
And then I wonder how come Emirates has become such an inconsistent airline in terms of quality where we all have to hope for good fortune rather than enjoy consistent high operating standards. |
"after four years of being an Emirates employee"
Is the OP an EK employee? |

Sounds like a friend :-) Gold status for staff is unusual.

Give the guy a break. I don't understand the aggro of some replies here. The chap's wife is travelling on a staff ticket, which she still purchased, even at discounted rates. She does hold a Gold card, meaning that she gives enough money to emirates to at least innocently expect lounge access even on staff tickets (which are certainly not the reason why she keeps Gold status, she flies on paid tickets to do so). Now, she was in the wrong, she understand the rules, no lounge, access, and thank you very much. No need that some need to reprimand the OP here for attempting to access the lounge.
