Well in the case that I am not able to convince them to check it through for me, and have to pick up my bags and recheck etc, doesn't QF fly into T3 at DXB? So it should be as easy as clearing immigration, picking up my bags, then going right to EK check in?

Oh sorry, yes, you are on QF to DXB - you'll be at T3 so it's fairly trivial (there are elevators at the end opposite the exit from customs, go straight up to the F/J terminal).

Baggage handling at DXB sucks though, but if you're used to BA handling then you won't notice a thing ;)

Yes they are all F, though the JFK-LHR-DXB is using miles (Avios), DXB-HYD is paid F.
Im hoping they will! I really don't want to have to clear immigration and what not just to pick up my bags and re check them in.

Check with Ahlan. I think it's Ahlan-dia.com. Very similar services as Marhaba but owned by Dubai Airports so they have a little more to offer (like a lounge in immigration & they take care of retrieving bags). They may be able to get your bags for you and re check them without you going thru immigration. But it will require at least an email (I would call them and speak to a manager). They may require you to purchase lounge access which you don't need but may still be worth it to you. I can't imagine it would cost more then AED300 or so

I think the baggage at Dxb is generally good, our bags always come off first!

+1. Almost Always literally the first 2 bags off (every blue moon I have a disaster and they may be the 6th or 7th :D:D. I find DXB very good for 1st class bags (and EK in general as in most stations they are out before I'm thru immigration)

** I don't think this has much to do w IO (other then the fact they are really the 1st bags down. I've spent most years not as an IO (they didn't even have it) and first class bags come right off most of the time. The problem is that depending on station, first off can be an hour after landing (but DXB is always excellent)

Maybe I've been cursed by the baggage gods - the last 3 times I've collected baggage at DXB, even though bags were first off, it still took 30-40 min for delivery!

I'm probably just spoilt by e-gate though, ha ha!

Had another thought.
My layover at LHR is about 5 hours, so I was thinking that I should just ask them at JFK to short check my bags to LHR, and pick them up and re-check in with QF, who will definitely be able to interline my bags over to EK at DXB right?
Im just trying to decide if its worth the hassle of switching terminals at LHR vs just doing it at DXB where its the same terminal.

Any thoughts on which you'd recommend? My layover at DXB is about 4 hours, so time really isn't an issue.

DXB every time. Especially with a T5-T3 connection at LHR.
