Ticket amendment or cancellation

Hi, does anyone know what Emirates policy is regarding ticket amendments? A friend of mine is flying from LHR to Mauritius via Dubai on Thursday, but due to a bereavement in his family he is required to get back to Mauritius ASAP.

Any advice?

It depends on the fare rules. Most tickets can be changed for a fee. Usually £300 I think.

However, if the bereavement is a family member, then changes can be made for free.

Also, travel insurance may help.

The policy is stated in the fare conditions and conditions of carriage for your ticket.

In the case of the death of an immediate family member, cancellation (before departure) or change fees are waived. Note you may still have to pay a fare difference.

Immediate family member is defined as:

“Immediate Family” means your spouse, your children (including adopted children), your parents, your brothers and sisters, your grandparents, your grandchildren, your parents-in-law, your brothers and sisters-in-law and your sons and daughters-in-law.

You will also need to provide EK with a copy of the death certificate.
