I'm quite puzzled about this.
When I start my journey, the hard cabin case weighs 4kg alone, the PC + charger 3kg (I have no PC bag), change clothes, EK amenity kit (:D), legal docs, a bottle of drink, teddy bear, all adds up to 10kg.
On return, that's another story. It's fully packed at around 15kg usually, but never exceeds the size of the cabin case.
So, 14kg is a reasonable limit, but, 7kg is too low.

My hard case with a 10 days of clothes and extra shoes comes in around 9kg. +3kg for laptop bag.

EK's 1-bag policy is frustrating, LCCs even allow 10kg and two bags. But never been forced to check a bag against my will if I insisted I preferred to carry on. Case fits snugly in the top and laptop bag always stays at my feet.

As an experienced 1-bagger I was staggered and frustrated to find EK limiting Y carry-on to a measly 7kg yet has a ridiculous 30kg of checked - if there has to be a weight limit why can it not be a combined one with a reasonable carry-on upper level e.g. 15-20kg. /rant

15 to 20 kg being lugged about the airport and then put in an overhead is ludicrous. Check it in and relax. /take it easy

Check it in - have it damaged in transit and/or lost (both have happened to me) and spend substantial chunks of time replacing/tracing. Plus I can arrive later at the airport and get through more quickly at the other end. YMMV.:p

If you're that unlucky you're safer staying under the duvet.

I know this gets debated all the time here on FT, but my approach is that most of the time it won't get damaged, won't get lost, won't cost you time and won't get you to the hotel/home/pub any quicker.

Don't worry about it. :)
