After 10y silver M&M, I just turned silver on skywards :-) I'm so excited to start enjoying my new benefits ;) :D
|
In general, I think the best benefits are
1) Business class check in - basically no need to queue really 2) Dem lounge access in Dubai - a quick shower and some decent food does help a lot 3) Occasional upgrades from Y-J - I don't think I have to explain much here 4) +12 kg for to your luggage allowance - does help a lot for students like me! 5) Priority boarding - as a Y-class traveller, getting into the cabin asap does help cause you get to but your belongings at the storage, instead of finding somewhere to put it thats it! |
Help me get the most out of Silver
I've got a return LHR-DXB flight later in the year. It's my first EK flight as Silver for a very long time.
I want to maximise my Silver benefits. As far as I can tell, at LHR I can use the Business check-in desks and there will be priority boarding. Arriving at DXB I already have eGate access (nothing to do with Silver, I know) so that should get me through immigration a lot quicker than queuing. On the return leg from DXB to LHR, I believe I can check-in using the Business check-in desks. At DXB I can use the Emirates Business lounge and then I'll get priority boarding. Is that a fair summary on how to maximise my Silver benefits? |
You can upgrade on-board if there are seats available (using miles).

But don't be too surprised if, amidst the general chaos and lack of priority 'policing' that is an occasional feature of DXB departures, you find a whole host of non-status and non-premium pax allowed to board with you ...... simply because they've decided they're entitled to ....... |
Don't forget you have that extra baggage allowance to make use of :D
|
I'm not sure silvers can use the biz and first check in area can they?

Oh, ok, understood. My mind must have been in gold mode.
But my general point remains wrt the (sometimes) substandard boarding procedure at DXB ......the one place where there are enough resources - but seemingly not the determination - to get it right. |
Extra luggage allowance might come in useful as it'll be a gadget-shopping trip.
|
They don't mark out priority boarding for Silvers in DXB, the signage usually reads Gold & Platinum, thought their website indicates as Silver one should have priority.

In principle - and hopefully - yes !

He's not premium either...just a Y-class passenger who flyies allot.
Regardless of his class of travel, if he's silver he should receive the published benefits without question or comment from staff or other passengers. Whether Skywards should offer x benefits to certain customers is, of course, another discussion. |
So just a quick question as I'm about to get silver status, if I fly on Y on my own dime would my non-status wife also have access to the lounge at DXB?
We like to go to Asia from Spain about once a year so this could definitely tip me in favor of flying EK. |
