Tourist class?

My fiancee has an economy ticket from DXB to LHR next week, booked through a Dubai based travel agent. The original ticket stated 'economy' as you'd expect, however she has changed the outbound date via the agent and the new eticket receipt states 'tourist' instead.

Anyone know what that means? Is it the new 'special' fare class?

May be a designation that the travel agent uses - the only fare class that matters is the fare basis code, which likely hasn't changed unless your fiance has paid a change fee.

Tourist Class is a name that has been used in some places as a name for economy class ( in the same way that the US tends to call the same as "coach class" )

I don't see that it really means anything and is nothing to be concerned about

When the term Tourist Class is applied to hotels and organized group tours, it tends to have worse connotations than would be the case for transportation (commercial airlines, trains, etc.). To me, a Tourist Class hotel is perhaps 1.5 star and not particularly distinctive; I think of a bad older property in a not very good location.

Why not just ask the travel agent what it means and whether there have been changes other than the dates?

m3red ....perhaps not the ideal time to tell the OP of your upcoming flight at the front of the plane.

I would imagine (given the circumstances) that it's probably just about the last thing he needed/wanted to hear !

Great, can you hold a raffle here for FT members to get their name on your tickets instead? We promise to provide trip reports!

Well, Transaero, for instance, has a class below economy called Tourist class, however, I do not believe Emirates has the same. Perhaps it is a special booking code for group consolidator tickets which earn no miles.

Thanks all for the replies. In this case the 'tourist' class is a normal saver fare that earns a paltry 2100 tier miles between DXB and LHR. Not me flying this one although I am travelling DXB-LAX the same day in J... 16 hours of business class fun...
