Not upgradeable with miles before check-in
Hello FTers
If i book a cheap ticket on Emirates BHX-DAC, how far in advance can I upgrade the DXB-DAC leg when it says on the ticket "NOT UPGRADEABLE WITH MILES BEFORE CHECK-IN"? Can I only upgrade at BHX airport? Could I upgrade online or do i have to call them? Thanks for any help. |
Others will correct me if I'm wrong, but my own view is that when the ticket says "Not upgradeable with miles before check-in", it means that the ticket is ......er ....... not upgradeable with miles before check-in.

Check in opens (on line) 24 hours before your first flight, and that is when you will have the opportunity to upgrade if there are is any upgrade inventory available.
|
Ok, so that does add some clarification, fair enough ^

Thanks. I thought I'd be able to do it online. I just hope inventory is available on the day. Kind of a crap rule I must say.

There is always the option to book a ticket which will allow immediate upgrade.

ETA. I forgot I had one booked for next month. Looks like "U" and "M" at least fall into the Saver but upgradeable immediately category. |
checking the fare rules on one route I fly, it does seem that in the fare rules, the airline now categorises as super saver, saver and flex where super saver is only upgradeable at check in time
I don't know whether this is a general rule, but on the fare I looked at it states Code:
Fare basis code LE39PAU1 |

Buying a flex fare guarantees that you ticket will not have the 24 hours upgrade restriction. However, some saver fares also don't have this restrictions as well. X, V, T, L, Q, H are only the saver fare classes that can't be upgraded until 24 hours before check-in.

I just upgraded a Saver Y ticket (W class) and my flight is more than a month away. So there are for sure Saver tickets without the checkin upgrade restriction...

Isn't W (R, E & Y) a Flex booking class?

My wife flew from BHX last week, and once she had done OLCI called Emirates to try to upgrade, but it appears to ONLY be available at the airport. Fortunately we got to the airport 3 hours before the flight and there was inventory available so she could use the miles to upgrade at that point. It may be that the inventory wasn't released in advance rather than it being a different interpretation of the rule. |
