terrible emirates experience

Airline reservation XXXXXX
Flight number EK 860
Departure city Kuwait (KWI)
Destination Dubai (DXB)
Departure date 01 Nov 14
Class of travel Business
Comments My flight took off late from Kuwait and I missed the connection to my Dallas flight by a few minutes. The gate closed no one saw me on my arrival to tell me that. I went to the lounge they said we cannot help you reach your final destination Austin Texas. All we can do is send you to Chicago and you find a way to go to Austin. I said then send me back to Kuwait. They said no you have to pay for your own ticket to Kuwait. I told them I am a platinum member but they would help or even care.
I have never been embarrassed and humiliated by an airline. It's not my fault that the plane was late. All airlines help their passengers reach their final destination!!
I will never fly emirates ever again!!! I do not see any privilege for platinum members!!! And I was supposed to give a lecture in a medical conference but I could not. The woman in the lounge didn't even bother to apologize for the inconvenience!

name EK 000 000 000

were you on a through ticket or separate tickets? that makes a big difference in airlines responsibilities.

salwaheeb Nov 2, 2014 11:21 am

It was a through ticket. One E ticket no and 1 reservation confirmation.

Were you on EK221 to DFW? If so, then could they not have easily put you on EK211 to IAH (even if the flight was oversold) which is just 250 odd miles south of Dallas. Then you could either have taken one of the numerous shuttles on that route to Dallas or even rented a car.

BTW, noticed that EK 860 dep 1-Nov arrived around 2 am at DXB and EK 221 departed at 3:00 am on 2-Nov. Wasn't there anyone at your arrival gate tell you which gate to rush to? At what time did you reach the gate? I guess even if you reached the gate by 2:30 am, they would have let you in as I've seen them holding back flights to the US for some pax to make their connections.

I saw this post on Dubai TA forum a few hours ago - someone seems to have reported it and its a closed topic
No reason for it to be reported.
I would ask for a reinstate but it looks like you will get your answers here anyway.
Good luck.

I asked TA to reinstate your thread and see this morning it has been done

salwaheeb Nov 3, 2014 1:09 am

Thanks Daisymay2 for helping my thread to be reinstated. I was merely conveying to people the bad experience I was having!!
You are right Jackiedada usually someone wait for you at the gate asking you to hurry. I reached the b15 dallas gate at 2:45 am but there was no one there. I am sure they could have found a way to speed track me but they didnt bother!!
The disgraceful thing is that when I asked the lady in the first class lounge to cancel my USA part of the trip and send me to Kuwait as I already paid for my ticket she said no!! since you didnt use your USA part of the ticket you have to pay for a return ticket which I did!!!
And "Emirates" prides itself in in its customer service and its prestige!!!

To be fair I don't think they pride themselves on customer service!

To be realistic they always mention how platinum members are special and they are treated in a great way because of their loyalty!!!
I can see that!!!

They only seem to give lip service to it, I've yet to see that translate into any tangible effort being taken by the crew/ staff for Plats.

Though, it is extremely likely that EKs stance is that you could have made the connection easily but were probably slow in reaching the gate and missed the flight.

From the little time that I have spent in trying to get the information from the Gate, your flight seems to have arrived at gate B30 and your onward was from Gate B15. If this is indeed true, you should have been at the gate no later than 15 minutes after your flight landed. How did you get delayed?

Duty free? :D

I am interested to know what happened next. Did you manage to find your way to the U.S. or back to KWI? What did EK do after the bad experience with the lounge attendant?

salwaheeb Nov 3, 2014 5:23 am

We arrived from Kuwait and were taken by bus to the terminal which was a very very long ride. I do not think we arrived at B30. I think we arrived at the A gates area. The ride was at least 25 minutes or so and when we arrived at the B area I was happy and said I will make it no need for train!! but no one received me and I was wondering on my own to see the gate closed.
What happened Ahmed is that I bought a one way economy ticket back to kuwait as they didnt want to use my original ticket that I paid for and I spend the next 4 hours sleeping on a chair waiting for the flight back.

The OP's final destination was Austin, TX so it seems a little odd that EK actually ticketed him through Dallas, since the only non-stops from DFW to AUS is on AA, and I was under the impression that you could not buy an EK/AA routing through Emirates. The more natural routing for EK would have been through JFK for a Delta connection. I guess a travel agent might have been able to route him through DFW connecting on AA. Is that possible?
I ask because it seems a little disturbing that a J passenger, with platinum status, and hence quite familiar with DXB could end up in this predicament when its quite basic that even a Y passenger with no status should have simply been re-booked on the next available flight. Perhaps the OP was on a tight schedule that could not be accommodated?

edy4eva Nov 3, 2014 4:36 pm

I think the offer by EK to route the passenger via ORD sounds ok. Seems that you didn't want to go to that conference to begin with :p
